We're thrilled to announce that One YMCA has been appointed as the sole provider of Family Services in Hertfordshire - and with this exciting opportunity comes the need to grow our team!



We're currently recruiting a Family Service Handy Person / Caretaker to play a vital role in supporting our expanding Family Support Services (FSS). If you're a practical, safety-conscious individual with a passion for supporting communities, this is your chance to make a real difference.



We work with around 9,000 families in East Hertfordshire, in partnership with a range of local professionals. Our centres deliver a wide variety of support groups and activities to help children and their families stay healthy, grow, and develop. To make it easy for families to fit sessions and services around their busy lives, access is available from any Hertfordshire Family Centre.



While this role will be primarily based in East Hertfordshire, you may occasionally be required to travel across the county to support other Family Centres - for example, to provide cover during staff sickness, annual leave, or peak service periods



This is a key role within our property team, working closely with our Locality Managers to ensure our family service buildings and spaces are safe, compliant, and welcoming for the families and communities we serve.



As our Family Service Handy Person / Caretaker, you will:

Provide practical, day-to-day support to the Family Service team across Hertfordshire Carry out essential health and safety and statutory compliance checks, including: Fire alarm and emergency lighting testing, Legionella temperature checks and record-keeping, PAT testing support and visual inspections, First aid and fire safety equipment monitoring Security and safeguarding of buildings and external areas Record and monitor key compliance and maintenance activities, ensuring accurate logs and reports are maintained Complete minor maintenance and repair tasks to keep our spaces functional and inviting Book and oversee contractors to ensure safe, high-quality work and adherence to One YMCA standards Take part in an emergency response rota, providing timely assistance when urgent issues arise


What We're Looking For

A proactive, reliable, and hands-on person, able to work independently and as part of a team Experience in building maintenance, caretaking, or facilities support, ideally with some understanding of compliance or statutory checks Good organisational and communication skills Full UK driving licence (essential) Enhanced DBS check (required prior to starting - we'll support this process)

Working Pattern: Monday - Friday


One YMCA and its subsidiaries, the Early Childhood Partnership (ECP) and Signpost are on an exciting journey to double our impact by 2025.
