Job Description

We are looking for a talented and passionate chef to join our team at Doafoods, an Afro-Caribbean grocery store renowned for its authentic flavors. The ideal candidate will specialize in Afro-Caribbean cuisine, creating traditional and fusion dishes that celebrate the rich cultural heritage of the region. You will oversee the preparation of high-quality, flavorful meals for the store's deli, catering, or ready-to-eat sections while ensuring compliance with food safety and hygiene standards.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Menu Planning and Execution:

o Design and prepare authentic Afro-Caribbean dishes, including curries, stews, rice dishes, pastries, and more.

o Incorporate seasonal ingredients and customer feedback into menu development.

o Experiment with new recipes to expand offerings and attract diverse customers.

2. Food Preparation and Cooking:

o Cook high-quality meals in accordance with traditional Afro-Caribbean techniques and flavors.

o Prepare food items for the store's hot food counter, catering orders, and pre-packaged meals.

o Ensure portion control, consistency, and presentation of all dishes.

3. Kitchen Management:

o Maintain a clean, organized, and safe kitchen environment.

o Oversee the storage, rotation, and inventory of ingredients, ensuring minimal waste.

o Train and supervise kitchen assistants or staff as needed.

4. Customer Service:

o Interact with customers to answer questions about dishes, provide recommendations, and customize orders.

o Address special dietary requirements or requests where possible.

5. Hygiene and Compliance:

o Adhere to all food safety regulations, store policies, and hygiene standards.

o Conduct regular cleaning and sanitation of cooking equipment and workstations.

Qualifications and Skills:

Proven experience as a chef, preferably with a focus on Afro-Caribbean cuisine. Deep knowledge of Afro-Caribbean spices, ingredients, and cooking methods. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple orders simultaneously. Strong leadership and communication skills. Creativity in recipe development and plating. Familiarity with food safety regulations and standards.
Preferred Qualifications:

Culinary certification or degree in a related field is a plus. Experience working in a multicultural or specialty grocery store setting. Knowledge of catering operations and menu planning.
