Job description
Do you want to be part of a team responsible for d/riving standards and supporting innovation for children with SEND?

Are you currently working in a mainstream setting and are looking for a change of direction, working in a sector that is highly personalised and incredibly rewarding?

Highbury School is an outstanding generic specialist school for pupils aged 4-11, including learners who have additional needs such as ASD, SLD, PMLD and SEMH. Judged 'outstanding' at our last inspection in July 2024, we are all committed to ensuring that our practice continues to move forward.

Our classes are organised according to pupil need and ability. We are looking to appoint a teacher to teach in one of our needs-based classes.

The successful applicant will be hard working, resilient, highly motivated and enthusiastic.

We offer all teachers who are new to the school a comprehensive induction package that supports them to develop their practice specific to the children they will be teaching. For all teachers who are new to the specialist sector, they will be supported by members of the Senior Leadership Team.

The successful candidate will:

Be a teacher who has a commitment to lifelong learning to continue to develop their own knowledge and skills.

Work well with a dedicated staff team to transform the lives of some of the most vulnerable children with moderate and multiple complex learning difficulties, autistic spectrum disorders and physical disabilities.

Communicate and engage effectively with children, staff, families, outside agencies, governors and the wider community.

Be committed to leading improvements in teaching and learning.

Have a deep understanding of early child development.

We can offer:

The opportunity to teach in an outstanding school with happy and inspiring children who enjoy learning.

A strong team of dedicated staff.

An exciting and stimulating learning environment.

A school with good facilities including a hydrotherapy pool and garden school.

Excellent support from governors, parents/carers and the local community.

At Highbury School we take our Safeguarding responsibilities very seriously. The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff to share this commitment. Applicants to posts that are exempted from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act will require a DBS (formerly CRB) from the Disclosure and Barring Service before the appointment is confirmed. All candidates are expected to have read the Schools' safeguarding policy and have a sound understanding of 'Keeping children safe in Education 2025'.

Interested applicants should explore the school website and Facebook page and are welcome to phone the school to speak with a member of the senior leadership team by prior arrangement. Visits to the school can be arranged by contacting the school.
