Brixham Does Care

is a registered befriending charity, founded in 1978 which attempts to combat loneliness and isolation. We offer support to people of all ages living in Brixham and surrounding communities.

Job Summary

: To attend to the personal needs of the service user. The duties include physical tasks, social care, activities and emotional care aimed at creating a supportive atmosphere where service users can achieve maximum independence and dignity.

Your duties will include:



To help service users who need assistance with getting from their home to the minibus and minibus to home, plus in and around the centre, including to and from the toilet.

To drive minibus or car when required

To help service users with mobility problems and other physical disabilities.

To help in the promotion of activity of service users through talking to them, taking them out, sharing with them in activities such as reading, writing, hobbies and recreations.

To clean where appropriate, including sanitising

To set tables; serve meals; feed service users who need help; wash up; tidy and clear the dining area.

To answer emergency bells, the door and the telephone.

To read and write reports; take part in staff and service users meetings and in training activities as directed.

To perform such other duties as may reasonably be required.

To comply with the guidelines and policies at all times.

To report to the team leader any significant changes in the health or circumstances of a service user.

To report any risks or hazards to the Team Leader.

To encourage service users to remain as independent as possible.

To work closely with all members of the care team to ensure effective and high quality care is given.

To have regular supervision sessions with your line manager.

To attend all necessary training relevant to the post.

Have a welcoming and positive approach to people who contact the Centre in person or by phone and assist with enquiries made.

Maintain confidentiality at all times, including verbal, in line with GDPR. Ensure records are kept up to date; help to maintain the database and individual files.

Make best use of IT

Make and receive calls; take and pass messages, communicate information efficiently and effectively (written and verbal) to relevant staff.

Discretion and total confidentiality is essential. You will also be required to sign a form of undertaking concerning confidentiality and disclosure of client information.

Health & Safety is everyone's concern. You are expected to have a positive approach to this subject and conform to all BDC requirements contained in BDC's health & safety statement.

You must cooperate with the management in discharging its responsibilities under the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 and take reasonable health & safety precautions for yourself and others and ensure the agreed safety procedures are carried out to maintain a safe environment for employees and visitors, this includes having Covid vaccinations or be willing to have the booster.
