The Deputy Manager will support the Registered Manager in providing leadership and oversight to ensure the smooth running of the children's home. They will play a key role in maintaining a safe, nurturing, and structured environment that meets the emotional, social, and developmental needs of young people in care.
The postholder will be responsible for supporting the management of staff, overseeing daily operations, and ensuring compliance with Ofsted regulations and company policies.
Main Responsibilities1. Leadership and Management
Support the Registered Manager in the day-to-day running of the home.
Provide line management, supervision, and guidance to residential staff.
Lead by example in promoting a positive, child-centred culture.
Deputise in the absence of the Registered Manager, ensuring continuity of leadership.
Support in recruitment, induction, and ongoing staff development.
2. Quality and Compliance
Ensure that the home meets or exceeds Ofsted standards and Children's Homes Regulations.
Participate in audits, inspections, and internal quality assurance processes.
Maintain accurate records, reports, and logs in line with safeguarding and data protection requirements.
Monitor and evaluate care plans, risk assessments, and behavioural management strategies.
3. Safeguarding and Child Protection
Promote and maintain a culture of safeguarding, ensuring all concerns are reported and acted upon promptly.
Support the team in managing challenging behaviour safely and therapeutically.
Liaise with social workers, police, CAMHS, education providers, and other agencies as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
4. Care and Support for Young People
Support young people in achieving their care plan goals and positive outcomes.
Encourage independence, resilience, and self-esteem through consistent, trauma-informed practice.
Ensure routines, boundaries, and daily structures are maintained to promote stability and safety.
5. Administration and Reporting
Contribute to rota planning and ensure appropriate staffing levels.
Maintain accurate records of incidents, medication, and daily logs.
Attend and contribute to placement meetings, reviews, and strategy discussions.
Person Specification Essential Criteria
Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent).
Working towards or willing to complete Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare.
Minimum of 2 years' experience working in a residential childcare setting.
Strong understanding of safeguarding, child protection, and regulatory frameworks.
Excellent communication, organisational, and leadership skills.
Ability to work flexibly, including evenings, weekends, and on-call duties.
Desirable Criteria
Previous experience in a Deputy Manager or Senior role.
Full UK driving licence.
Experience supporting children with trauma, emotional dysregulation, or complex needs.
