Are you a seasoned finance professional with a strong track record of providing strategic financial insight to improve financial performance?



Imperial is looking for a Director of Faculty Finance to act as a strategic business advisor to the Dean and Faculty Chief Operating Officer of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and manage the Finances of the Faculty and ensure its smooth operation.


The Faculty of Natural Sciences strives to produce the very best science and deploy it for the wider benefit of society. It is committed to both fundamental science and applications orientated research, seeing these as complementary parts of a common endeavour.


The Director of Finance will provide comprehensive financial insights and advice to support the Faculty and its departments, enabling data-driven decision-making and strategic financial planning.


What you would be doing


---------------------------


You will be responsible for the smooth running of the finances of the Faculty, identifying and resolving the financial challenges as they arise. You will oversee the preparation of and review/ challenge all financial information used to support strategic decision-making in the Faculty of Natural Sciences, ensuring its accuracy and completeness. You will work closely with the Dean to develop a prioritised financial plan for the Faculty by setting targets, co-ordinating budget preparation and challenging submissions. You will provide strategic insight on the content of monthly management reports and any ad hoc analysis. Review variance analyses and account reconciliations and identify any significant items requiring the attention of management. You will identify potential issues associated with unusual or complex transactions, alerting relevant specialists in central finance (e.g. Accounting and Tax). You will manage cost challenges and collaborate with colleagues to optimize cost structures and performance metrics. You will provide leadership to/ and develop team members, inspiring excellent performance that fully reflects the behaviours required by Imperial Values.

What we are looking for

A qualified accountant with experience in a similar role in a large, complex organisation Experience of managing a small team Experience of identifying and resolving financial challenges for an organisation or department of equivalent size. Finance Business partnering at senior management level Line management experience of at least a small team Strong technical knowledge Pro-active individual, with strong networking, communication and presentation skills Capacity to 'look outside the box' and come up with novel, workable, ideas for improvements Ability to influence and persuade senior managers whilst remaining diplomatic Strong team-working skills, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues across different functions
