About the Role
This role keeps our firm financially healthy, compliant, and organised.
You'll manage daily finance operations, checking ledgers, reconciliations, invoices, and transfers.
You will ensure we meet all SRA Accounts Rules and help the team understand the financial side of their work so everything runs smoothly.
Beyond compliance, this role is about insight. You'll turn numbers into stories tracking fee-earner performance, monitoring WIP, and producing simple reports for leadership.
Your work will show where the business is performing best, where cash can flow faster, and how we can grow with more clarity.
Core Responsibilities (but not limited to)
Manage client and office accounts in line with SRA Accounts Rules.
Complete daily and monthly bank reconciliations for all accounts.
Process client payments, transfers, and client-to-office movements.
Raise and post invoices for fees, disbursements, and client fund requests.
Record purchase invoices, expenses, and journals.
Support month-end and year-end close with reports and documents.
Help with VAT returns, WIP write-offs, and balance management.
Build clear dashboards to track fee-earner output, WIP, and aged debtors.
Analyse performance data to spot trends and areas for improvement.
Work with fee-earners and operations to improve cash collection and reduce aged debtors.
Share regular KPI and fee reports with the CEO and COO.
Ensure time recording and billing stay aligned with firm goals.
Experience with credit control or debt recovery.
Skill in building performance dashboards or financial KPIs.
Proactive in engaging with fee-earners to meet WIP and collection targets.
Collect monthly changes and manage payroll.
Forecasting and monthly, quarterly budgeting.
Managing the SRA yearly audit.
A Bit About You
You have excellent attention to detail, care about accuracy, and stay calm under pressure. You know how important strong financial systems are in a law firm.
You have:
At least 5 years' experience as a Legal Cashier or in a similar finance role in a law firm.
Excellent knowledge of SRA Accounts Rules and client money compliance.
Strong organisational and communication skills.
An incredible self-starter who is not afraid to get stuck in.
Solid Excel skills and confidence with finance software (Osprey experience is a plus, but training provided).
A collaborative attitude and interest in using financial data to help the team improve.
Extra Credit
AAT or ILFM qualification (or working towards one).
Experience using Osprey (https://ospreyapproach.com).
Keen Interest in technology or automation in finance.
Understanding of B Corp Values and Lexcel accreditation support.
