The NHS Trust is seeking an experienced and dedicated Locum Consultant to join our team in the
General Internal Medicine

Geriatrics
, and
Acute Medicine
departments. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a dynamic and multidisciplinary team providing high-quality care to elderly patients and those requiring acute medical care. The successful candidate will provide leadership, clinical expertise, and support in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Immediate start required.
Key Responsibilities:
Clinical Duties:
Provide direct patient care, including the assessment, diagnosis, and management of elderly patients and those requiring acute medical intervention.
Manage complex cases in
General Internal Medicine
,
Acute Medicine
, and
Geriatrics
.
Lead ward rounds and multidisciplinary team meetings.
Provide expertise in managing acute admissions, particularly those with multi-morbidity.
Ensure high standards of clinical governance and safe practice in all aspects of patient care.
Leadership and Team Management:
Supervise and mentor junior medical staff, including registrars, SHOs, and other clinical team members.
Ensure effective communication across teams and departments.
Work alongside nursing, physiotherapy, and other allied health professionals to ensure comprehensive patient care.
Teaching and Education:
Provide educational leadership, delivering teaching to medical students, junior doctors, and nursing staff.
Support and facilitate continuous professional development within the department.
Audit and Quality Improvement:
Lead and participate in clinical audits and quality improvement projects.
Ensure that all clinical and administrative records are maintained in line with NHS standards and Trust policies.
Research (optional):
Participate in clinical research and trials as appropriate, with opportunities for academic development.
Qualifications and Requirements:
Essential Qualifications:
CCT (Certificate of Completion of Training)
in
General Internal Medicine
,
Geriatrics
, or
Acute Medicine
(or equivalent if applying from outside the UK).
Full registration with the
General Medical Council (GMC)
with a license to practice.
MRCP (or equivalent) or higher qualification in a relevant field.
Experience:
Extensive experience in
General Internal Medicine
,
Geriatrics
, and/or
Acute Medicine
, with proven expertise in managing acute admissions, elderly care, and multi-disciplinary team working.
Previous experience as a consultant or senior medical staff in a hospital setting is highly desirable.
Experience in leading ward rounds, clinical audits, and service improvement initiatives.
Experience in teaching and supervising junior medical staff.
Desirable Skills and Attributes:
Ability to lead and manage a multidisciplinary team.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Evidence of participation in clinical research or quality improvement projects.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment, with excellent problem-solving skills.

The role will involve covering both day and on-call shifts, with some weekend and evening work required.

You will receive full support from senior consultants, medical staff, and clinical teams to ensure that you are integrated smoothly into the department.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Permanent, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 6 months
Pay: 90.00-120.00 per hour
Expected hours: 45 - 50 per week
