Job Summary
The NHS Trust is seeking an experienced
Locum Psychiatry Registrar
to provide high-quality psychiatric care within the Mental Health Service. The postholder will work as part of a multidisciplinary team under the supervision of a Consultant Psychiatrist, covering one or more psychiatric sub-specialties depending on service needs.
This role is suitable for a doctor with prior experience at CT3+ / ST4-6 level in psychiatry.
Section 12(2) approval is essential.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments of inpatients and outpatients.
Participate in ward rounds, MDT meetings, and clinical reviews.
Develop and implement care plans in collaboration with patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams.
Contribute to risk assessments and management plans.
Liaise with community mental health teams, crisis resolution teams, and other services as required.
Provide on-call cover (as per rota).
Support teaching, supervision, and training of junior medical staff and medical students.
Maintain accurate clinical records and ensure compliance with GMC and NHS standards.

Old Age Psychiatry (Functional & Organic Disorders)
Liaison Psychiatry (General Hospital Setting)
Crisis & Home Treatment Team (HTT)
Early Intervention in Psychosis (EIP)
Forensic Psychiatry (Low / Medium Secure Units)
Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS)
Learning Disability Psychiatry
Rehabilitation Psychiatry
Addictions / Substance Misuse Services
Perinatal Psychiatry
Applicants are encouraged to specify their areas of interest or previous experience.
Essential Requirements
Full GMC Registration with a licence to practise.
Section 12(2) approval under the Mental Health Act (essential).
Minimum 3 years post-graduate experience, including at least 1 year in psychiatry at core or higher training level.
Experience in risk assessment and management of acute psychiatric presentations.
Up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation (MHA, MCA, Safeguarding).
Excellent communication, clinical, and teamwork skills.
Desirable
MRCPsych or equivalent postgraduate qualification.
Experience in multiple psychiatric subspecialties.
Previous NHS experience at Registrar or Specialty Doctor level.
Availability to participate in on-call rota.
