Overview



The Nursery School Handyman is responsible for maintaining a safe, clean, and well-functioning environment for children, staff, and visitors. This role supports the daily operations of the nursery through general repairs, safety checks, and routine maintenance tasks.

Key ResponsibilitiesMaintenance & Repairs



Carry out general repairs and maintenance across the nursery (e.g., fixing doors, furniture, equipment, minor plumbing, painting). Perform basic electrical, carpentry, and plumbing tasks within competence levels. Ensure outdoor play areas, garden spaces, and equipment are safe and well maintained.

Health & Safety



Conduct regular safety inspections of the premises, reporting any issues promptly. Support compliance with health and safety regulations, including fire safety checks and hazard identification. Ensure pathways, entrances, and play surfaces are safe and free from hazards (e.g., clearing leaves, snow, or debris).

Premises Care



Support the upkeep of indoor and outdoor spaces to a high standard. Assist with room set-ups, furniture moves, and assembling equipment as needed.

General Support



Work collaboratively with nursery staff to support operational needs. Carry out any additional tasks requested by the Nursery Manager in line with the role.

Experience & Skills Required



Previous experience in maintenance, caretaking, or a similar handyman role. Basic skills in DIY, repairs, and general maintenance. Understanding of health and safety requirements in an educational or childcare environment (desirable). Ability to work independently and take initiative. Good communication skills and a positive, helpful attitude. Ability to prioritise tasks and manage time effectively.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: 13.17-15.00 per hour

Expected hours: 2 - 5 per week

Work Location: In person
