Playcare is a successful and well-established community out of school childcare service for children of primary school age. Based in the Murray area of East Kilbride, we are open approximately 50 weeks of the year, providing a range of indoor and outdoor activities from our well-equipped premises. The staff team are committed to developing a service which provides exciting and challenging opportunities for each individual child in our care. Playworker
, you will work within a small and friendly team.
This is a permanent position with part time hours as follows
School Term Time:
On a rota basis between the hours of 3pm and 6pm (actual hours worked will be from 2 to 3 hours per day)
School Holidays:
On a rota basis between the hours of 8am and 6pm (actual hours worked will be from 6 hours per day)
Rate of Pay:
Playworker:12.21 per hour
Senior Playworker: 13.50 per hour
There is an option to be paid for a fixed 16 hours (negotiable) per week for 52 weeks per year.
Time off in lieu will be allocated for additional accumulated hours.
Your main responsibilities will be to:
Develop and lead activities which are exciting, stimulating and responsive to the needs of individual children.
Create an atmosphere which generates a sense of belonging for all children attending.
Support the work of colleagues and team work between all staff, children and parents/carers
Collect children by foot from local schools and escort them safely to the service base
Maintain toys, equipment and premises to a clean, safe and hygienic standard. Work with other staff to set up and clear away furniture, toys and equipment at the beginning and end of each session.
The qualification requirements for the position are
:
HNC Childhood Practice /SVQ3 Playwork.
Any other equivalent practice qualification at Level 3/Level 7 or above which complies with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) registration requirements for workers in a day care of children setting. You can view the accepted qualifications on the SSSC website:
Previous experience in working with children and young people age 4 to 12 (preferable)
Good knowledge of child development and current childhood practice.
Additional job-related requirements
Willing to support outdoor/environmental play and learning (e.g. forest and garden allotment) in all weathers. (Additional training will be given if required).
Able to work flexibly to ensure staff to child ratios are maintained.
The successful applicant will be required to join the PVG scheme or apply for an update, the cost of which will be met by the organisation
Register with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) within 3 months of taking up employment.
Undertake any additional training identified by the Manager
