About the Role

Active Outreach Services is seeking a patient, creative, and nurturing SEN Mentor to support an 18-year-old learner who functions at a lower developmental level. Sessions are designed to be play-based, sensory, and communication-focused, helping the learner build confidence, independence, and meaningful engagement.

You'll plan and deliver personalised sessions that use PECS, visuals, and sensory activities to promote communication and emotional regulation, working in collaboration with the AOS team and the young person's family.

Responsibilities

Deliver engaging, play-based mentoring sessions tailored to the learner's individual needs. Incorporate PECS, visuals, and sensory tools to support communication. Encourage social, emotional, and behavioural development through structured and creative activities. Complete short daily progress notes for internal review. Work closely with parents/carers and the AOS Outreach Coordinator to maintain consistency and support goals. Ensure safeguarding and professional boundaries are maintained at all times.

Requirements

Experience working with SEN or complex needs, ideally including autism, sensory processing difficulties, or communication delays. Understanding of PECS, or sensory-based learning approaches. A calm, resilient, and adaptable personality. Reliable, professional, and able to work independently. Enhanced DBS (or willing to obtain one). Right to work in the UK.
