Senior Finance Assistant

Birmingham, ENG, GB, United Kingdom

Job Description

An excellent opportunity in our Finance Operations team.

The role

We're looking for someone to take on a hands-on and rewarding position, where you'll be involved in a variety of cashiering duties and play a vital part in processing both client and office transactions in accordance with the Solicitors Regulation Authority Accounts Rules. You'll report directly to our Finance Team Leader and collaborate with the finance operations team spread across our offices.

The person

This role is ideally suited to a candidate with experience in the legal sector or a professional services environment, underpinned by a strong financial background and a commitment to delivering outstanding service to both internal and external clients. The successful individual will bring expertise in legal cashiering, be working towards or hold an accounting qualification, and demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Office applications.

Attention to detail, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to engage confidently with colleagues at all levels are essential. The role requires a methodical and organised approach, along with the ability to manage and prioritise tasks independently. A collaborative mindset is key, as the position involves working closely with both local and remote finance teams.

The activities

This role involves supporting a broad range of finance operations, including processing client and office account transactions in line with SRA compliance, managing inter-account transfers, and assisting with purchase ledger activities. The successful candidate will liaise with clients regarding credit card matters, contribute to month-end procedures, and ensure accurate data entry within the accounting system.

They will provide guidance to fee earners and executive assistants on financial processes, assist with bank reconciliations and audit support, and respond to queries from clients and financial institutions. Additionally, the role includes producing financial reports, supporting billing and credit control, and contributing to the implementation of new systems and process improvements across the firm.

Please ensure you read the job description below for full detail of this position.

We reserve the right to close this vacancy early if we receive sufficient applications for the role. Therefore, if you are interested, please submit your application as early as possible.

The benefits

As you'd expect, we offer a competitive salary and a wide range of benefits.

Pre employment screening

If we offer you a role, we will conduct comprehensive pre-employment screening. This screening will include, but is not limited to, a basic DBS, verification of your right to work, a three year employment history and a self-declaration to assess your character and suitability for the role. Full details of our pre-screening employment process are available upon request.
