JOB PURPOSE
Shape the future of news on social media.
We're on a mission to make BBC News the most trusted and most watched news brand on social media - reaching audiences across the UK and around the world. Central to this is growing our presence on YouTube by creating platform-native, audience-first content that resonates with younger audiences and those who have little or no relationship with the BBC.
As a Video Creator in the BBC News Social Media Team you'll play a pivotal role in translating the BBC's world-class journalism into visual formats that make stories feel relevant, accessible and engaging. You'll work closely with teams in the BBC Newsroom covering some of the biggest stories of our time, from breaking news to global conflicts and deep investigations and bring their reporting to life in ways that connect with digital-first audiences.
While your primary focus will be YouTube, you'll also contribute to our wider social strategy - helping to build trust, drive reach and grow brand affinity across platforms like TikTok and Instagram. This is your chance to help reinvent how BBC News shows up off-platform, as well as on our app and website and shape the way millions experience BBC journalism.
WHY JOIN THE TEAM:
BBC News runs some of the largest and most influential social media news accounts in the world, reaching millions of people across the UK and globally every single day. Our social team is at the forefront of digital journalism - constantly evolving to ensure the BBC's trusted reporting connects with audiences wherever they are.
If you're a creator with a passion for storytelling and impact, this is your chance to help deliver trusted, engaging news to millions daily. You'll be part of a team that's reinventing how news is experienced on social platforms, building trust in BBC News, fighting disinformation and shaping the future of journalism for the next generation.
YOUR KEY RESPONSABILITIES & IMPACT:
Create bold, high-impact news content that makes the BBC's global reporting accessible and engaging for digital-first audiences. You'll break stories, decode complex issues and spotlight underreported topics with clarity, creativity and journalistic integrity.
Collaborate with BBC editors, correspondents and reporters to shape innovative YouTube formats that bring the world's biggest stories to life in fresh, visual ways.
Experiment with storytelling formats - from short-form explainers to live streams and long-form deep-dives, using audience data to respond quickly to what resonates.
Oversee the full production cycle - from concept and scripting to self-shooting or commissioning, editing, packaging and publishing across platforms.
This role is all about responding to news as it happens, which will involve weekend and shift working.
YOUR SKILLS & EXPERIENCE - KEY CRITERIA
Proven success as a creator or journalist on YouTube and other social platforms - whether independently or as part of a brand or newsroom
Skilled in translating complex stories into engaging, platform-specific scripts and formats that resonate with social audiences
Deep knowledge and enthusiasm for video-first platforms, especially YouTube - with a clear understanding of how short-form and mid-form content is discovered, consumed and shared.
Strong end-to-end video production skills - from idea development to scripting, editing and publishing across multiple formats and platforms
Confident using data and analytics to inform content decisions and respond to audience needs, particularly for under-25s.
You'll be collaborative, curious and ready to help reshape BBC News for the next generation.
