Following the expansion of our department, we wish to appoint an enthusiastic and well-qualified part-time Teacher of SEND on a Pay-As-Advised (by lesson) contract for September 2025 to join a dynamic, successful, and thriving department.


We welcome applications from both experienced SEND specialists and those looking to develop an in-demand specialism, including recent graduates. The role is envisaged as up to 0.6 FTE; there is scope to adapt the timetable to fit with the existing commitments of the successful applicant. It may include lunchtime lessons or lessons before school (i.e. starting at 08:00) and there is scope for some teaching commitments to happen on Saturday mornings if this suits the successful applicant. There may be small changes to the timetable to reflect changing needs of our SEND pupils through the academic term and we therefore are open to discussing the possibility of alternative days and indeed job-sharing to suit personal and professional commitments of the right candidate.


This position will involve teaching pupils aged 13-18 from a diverse range of backgrounds. Applications are especially welcome from candidates who can also offer teaching to younger pupils attending our Prep School (ages 7-13). The department support pupils who are neurodiverse including pupils who have dyslexia, autism, ADHD. Academic Lessons can be on a 1:1 basis or small group focusing on English and Maths, study and revision skills as well as supporting pupils with different areas of the curriculum as required. The successful candidate will also help with reviewing and updating pupil learning plans (IEPs) so that these can be shared with teaching colleagues to help support pupils in their wider curriculum lessons. In addition to SEND support teaching (1:1 and group lessons), the ideal candidate:

will have a genuine passion for supporting pupils who are neurodiverse will also be eager to develop their own teaching skills and share ideas with colleagues will celebrate and actively promote diversity.

We are keen to hear from candidates with experience and qualifications in either the state, independent or international sectors. Additionally, we would welcome applicants who are looking to gain further experience and qualifications and develop in a supportive environment.

Bedford School class sizes are small and we operate vertical tutor groups, giving boys the chance to mentor and lead those younger, learn from those older and simply 'be' together without peer pressure. Academic results and destinations speak for themselves with 91% of our boys going onto their first or second choice university, including several to Oxbridge each year, and international universities. Many students are successful in gaining places at medical schools.



Facilities are first-class - two simulators (golf and flight), an observatory and planetarium are standout features. Our recently built Music School and Theatre house dynamic creative departments and excellent student performances.



Every boy makes a meaningful local contribution via our Community Partnership Programme, working in mutually beneficial partnerships with individuals from varied backgrounds, and we have run the Ivy House Leadership Award since its inception. We regularly top the schools' leader board in fundraising for Movember.



Sport is a forte: 96% of boys represent the school annually, and our major sports teams regularly make national finals, with many pupils playing at county or national level and at least one leaver almost every year going into professional sport. We work with Northampton Saints, Northants CCC and Woburn Golf Club. But we have a philosophy of 'sport for all' and we regularly field E and F teams.
