Highfields School is a small, co-educational, non-selective independent preparatory school and day nursery. We cater for children aged 2-11 years. Situated a short walk from Newark town centre, the school sits within 14 acres of natural parkland, offering a wonderful working and learning environment.

We are recruiting for a One to One Teaching Assistant to support a pupil with a diagnosis of autism. The role requires the successful candidate to work 17.5 hours a week across 3 days (Wednesday PM & Thursday, Friday) 35.1 weeks a year- term time only, plus INSET days set out by the senior leadership team. The role will be reviewed annually in line with the pupils funding for classroom support. We require the successful candidate to begin (ideally) after the summer break in September 2025.

The role will involve:

Working closely with the class teacher to support the pupil to access all the learning and extracurricular activities at Highfields,

Provide an informed and efficient approach to teaching and learning by adopting relevant strategies to support the work of the teacher,

Work in collaboration with the teacher and other colleagues to increase the pupil's achievements; supporting strengths and nurturing challenges that are related to the child's autism diagnosis,

Being able to use effective behaviour management strategies consistently in line with the school's policy and procedures

Communicating effectively with the pupil's family to provide an easy transition from home to school life on a daily basis

The successful candidate will -

Have experience in working on a one to one basis with children who have additional needs;

Have a good understanding of autism

Be committed to a bespoke approach to teaching and learning

Be able to work closely with the form teacher

Work in a professional manner to communicate with parents and liaise closely with the staff member who will be supporting the pupil the other half of the week;

Be a great team player who can effectively manage their own time and respond flexibly

The salary/ pay scale will be based on experience. The 1:1 job is part time at 17.5 hours per week
