This is a deeply rewarding opportunity to provide consistent, one-to-one classroom support for a non-verbal pupil with additional learning and communication needs. The Role
You will work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to support a non-verbal child, adapting classroom tasks to suit their learning style and supporting their emotional wellbeing throughout the school day. Your role will include helping the pupil access learning, promoting social interaction, and encouraging independence through personalised strategies.
Key responsibilities include:
Providing 1:1 classroom support using a consistent and structured approach
Supporting the use of alternative communication methods (e.g., visuals, gestures, Makaton)
Helping the child build routines that promote engagement and confidence
Monitoring progress and contributing to the child's support plans
Working collaboratively with the teaching team, SENCO, and any external professionals
Supporting emotional regulation and encouraging positive peer interaction
The Ideal Candidate
Experience supporting pupils with communication or learning difficulties, particularly in a 1:1 setting
A calm, empathetic, and patient nature with a strong sense of consistency
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a willingness to work as part of a team
A Teaching Assistant qualification (Level 2 or 3) is required for mainstream roles in Cumbria
A commitment to inclusive education and enthusiasm for ongoing learning

Working Hours
Monday to Friday, 8.30?am to 3.30?pm

If you do not have a subscription to the DBS Update Service, you may be required to complete a new DBS application as part of the registration process. If you take a temporary role with Sense Education you will be paid on a weekly basis. All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position but long term. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available.
