About the Role
The Forensic Investigations team at FTI Consulting is an internationally recognised leader in investigation services to the business and legal community.
We sit within FTI Consulting's Forensic and Litigation Consulting segment and work collaboratively with a range of teams including business intelligence, data analytics and computer forensics to undertake investigations involving corporate fraud, whistle-blowing, tracing of assets, and bribery and corruption allegations.
We work closely with law firms, banks, regulatory bodies and companies in the UK and around the world in a wide range of industries. We support our clients through every step of an investigation, from responding to an incident to uncovering critical facts, communicating with regulators and engaging in remediation efforts.
The projects we work on require us to address issues which often have a critical impact on businesses.
We aim to answer questions such as:

• Who authorised the transaction?
• What was the chronology of events?
• When did the losses commence?
• Where did the monies or assets go?
• Why didn't anyone spot the problem earlier?
• How does the company ensure it does not happen again?

What You'll Do
As an placement year student in the Forensic Investigations team, you will be exposed to a broad range of forensic accounting and investigative work from day one.
The kind of work you do will be project-specific, but will often fall under one of the following:

• conducting investigative research into companies and individuals, either in preparation for or as part of project work;
• performing a detailed review and analysis of an entity's financial records (e.g. general ledger extracts, underlying financial records such as invoices and bank statements, and financial statements);
• recording, summarising and explaining your analysis in rigorously maintained working papers;
• reviewing an entity's internal and external communications to identify patterns and corroborate the findings from your detailed analysis;
• summarising your findings for team members orally or in emails, memoranda, presentations or reports;
• attending internal project meetings and potentially those with clients and their internal and external legal advisers, and taking detailed notes; and
• assisting with research for new opportunities and preparing proposals to win them.

What You Will Need to Succeed
Basic Qualifications
Applicants must be:

• completing a sandwich course at university and due to graduate in 2028;
• available for this placement year from 7th September 2026 to 27th August 2027; and
• predicted a 2:1 or above final grade (or equivalent) for their degree

Preferred Qualifications
Some knowledge of accounting, including basic bookkeeping, is desirable. Therefore, degrees such as Accounting, Economics, Business and Finance are likely to be preferred. Alternatively, where accounting is not covered to some extent in their degree, candidates should have some prior experience of it.
Applicants will also have:

• excellent academic qualifications;
• good numeracy and analytical skills;
• the ability to identify key issues, think creatively and to work as part of a team; and
• an eye for detail and an inquisitive nature, coupled with a clear belief in honesty and integrity.

Italian, Arabic and Eastern European language skills are also desirable (although are by no means required).
Finally, please explicitly disclose on your CV:

• your A Level (or equivalent) grades;
• your language skills, and at what level; and
• computer programming language skills.

STEP 2: Complete an online assessment testing numerical reasoning skills.
STEP 3: Attend an assessment centre which includes a case study and a written task between 17th and 21st November 2025.
STEP 4: Attend an interview with our senior managers between 1st and 12th December 2025.
STEP 5: Job offers are made to successful candidates before Christmas.
