As an Industrial Placement Year Intern within Markets Economic Research, you will engage in a stimulating, demanding environment, supporting our senior economists with industry-leading research.

This is a 12-month programme running from May 2026 to May 2027, eligible only for students graduating April-October 2028 who have an integrated industrial placement year within their degree. This programme is a pipeline to our subsequent full-time analyst programme.

Available tracks
EDGE (Frontier Economies): This role will allow you to understand the global economy along with a wide range of smaller economies. Most of the time will be dedicated to exciting stories about frontier economies along with understanding how Developed Markets interact with Emerging Markets. Your work alongside senior economists will support regional and global asset managers (including corporates occasionally) to understand what is happening in the world and economies of interest to them. The team members have various skills on economics and econometrics. Through interaction with all team members, you will deepen your knowledge of Economics, Excel, and Programming. All these will serve as a solid foundation for your career. The job will also include thematic weekly analyses for frontier economies at the global level. You will deal with themes, such as: the role of global financial variables for Emerging Market economies, how monetary policy shocks of global or regional central banks are transmitted, what drives GDP growth in Emerging Markets, and the roles of China, the US and the Eurozone for various regions of the World, including frontier economies. Highly interesting topics will cover how countries fund themselves on external capital markets, why some countries cannot find capital and are forced to restructure their debt. Linked to that, you will learn the macroeconomic implications of capital flows, what is the IMF role and that of other International Financial Institutions. Frequent discussions will deal with the causes of inflation across the world and how to understand what Central Banks are doing versus what they should do.
Equity Quantitative: Your expertise will contribute to cutting-edge research and quantitative strategies. You will collaborate with internal teams and prepare the presentation of insights to external clients, leveraging your strong quantitative skills and knowledge of machine learning and big data.
Western Europe: In an ever-changing global economy, you'll spend your time helping our clients to understand what is happening now, and what will happen next. During recent years, the students have been involved in longer-term projects involving the impact of higher gas prices on the European economy, structural changes in European growth potential, the causes of inflation persistence across the region as well as the impact of the rapid rise in interest rates on economies. In addition to such projects, the student is involved with the weekly rhythm of economic analysis and publications. The work is very varied and driven in large part by current events.
Job responsibilities
Support senior economist colleagues with key economic research, evaluations and preparatory analyses.
Monitor market movements and conduct portfolio reviews.
