Job Description

Job Summary

You support utilities projects with skilled excavator work on track routes and joint bays. You handle plant with precision, follow strict safety rules, and keep work progressing. You keep equipment in good condition and work closely with the civils and cable teams.

Duties

Operate excavators for trenching, track work, joint bay formation, backfill, and reinstatement. Carry out daily checks and basic maintenance to keep plant in safe working order. Excavate and prepare joint bays to specification. Maintain clear dig lines around live utilities. Follow all health and safety rules and use PPE at all times. Work with supervisors and other crews to keep the job on schedule. Record completed work and report faults or safety risks.

Skills

Strong mechanical knowledge linked to excavator operation and upkeep. Experience in utilities work, including track routes and joint bays. UK Driving licence preferred but not essential. Solid understanding of safety rules for utility corridors and confined excavations. Strong organisation and the ability to follow instructions with accuracy. Comfortable working outdoors in changing conditions.
