To contribute to achieving excellence in teaching and learning through innovative and excellent practice. You will be expected to create

effective and stimulating learning opportunities for all students through high quality teaching, learning and assessment.

Monitor each student's academic performance and provide feedback for improvements, supervise and motivate students to achieve their academic and personal goals. You will be working with adult students who will be striving to achieve at both Level 2 & Level 3 in maths and science. You will need to consider the barriers our learners may have and the possible negative experiences they may have had studying in the past. You will take an empathetic, trauma informed approach to your teaching that will help to build confidence and allow our students to achieve to their full potential.

Key Responsibilities





To contribute fully to the mission and values statement of the College ensuring its effective implementation in all aspects of College life.

To contribute to the College and curriculum area strategic objectives and to actively engage in the annual review.

To be aware of national developments in subject area and update knowledge and skills on an annual basis.

To plan, prepare and deliver high quality lessons in order to achieve effective management of the learning process.

Plan and use a range of effective and appropriate teaching and learning techniques to engage and motivate students and encourage independence and student autonomy

Establish a purposeful and motivating learning environment where students feel safe, secure, confident and valued.

Establish and maintain procedures with students which promote and maintain appropriate behaviour, communication and respect for others, while challenging discriminatory behaviour and attitudes.

To set and mark work in accordance with College and School Assessment policies.

To track all students' progress and attendance in accordance with agreed College systems and policies.

To provide a balance of appropriate teaching styles and learning experiences.

To be aware of external/internal assessment procedures and to play and appropriate part in their implementation.

Evaluate and improve own communication skills to maximise effective communication and overcome barriers.

To liaise with Head of School in contributing to the design of programmes and teaching approaches which will enable curriculum areas to achieve high standards and value added.

To liaise with Head of School and curriculum teams in contributing to the administration necessary to support the teaching, learning and assessment within the subject area.

To work with colleagues with relevant expertise to identify and address additional student English and Maths skills development in subject area.

To review own professional development needs and to participate fully in future training and development.

To make a positive contribution to welcome evenings, events and open evenings.

To ensure that all students in the subject area comply with College's policies and procedures.

To provide enrichment opportunities that are exciting, motivating and enhance the student experience.

Generic duties:

To contribute fully to the mission and values statement of the College Group ensuring its effective implementation in all aspects of College life. To take proactive responsibility for Health & Safety to ensure that a safe working environment and safe working practices are maintained at all times. To comply with the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR). To support cross college actives as required in particular the key enrolment and invigilation periods.

To take a proactive approach and responsibility for personal professional development, Health & Safety, and meeting other regulatory compliance (e.g. GDPR, Safeguarding), thereby enabling safe and professional working practices to be observed at all times. To support cross college actives as required, particularly during key enrolment and invigilation periods. Carry out any other relevant and appropriate duties as determined by the needs of the service and as appropriate to the grade.



Due to the changing nature of our work, this role profile serves as a framework to outline the main areas of responsibility. You may be required to undertake other activities of a similar nature that fall within the remit of your area of work.


Skills, Knowledge and Expertise



Essential Criteria


Educated to Level 4 e.g. Degree or equivalent in either Chemistry, Mathematics or Physics (or related degree).

A recognised Teaching qualification.

Successful recent previous teaching experience.

Excellent computer literacy - ability to use the current IT programs of the College.

Proven relevant experience of curriculum planning, development & delivery in maths

Knowledge and understanding of science-based Access to H.E Diplomas and, GCSE Chemistry and Physics

Engaged and passionate about Continuing Professional Development.

Minimum of Level 2 literacy and numeracy or willingness to complete.

High level of communication and interpersonal skills, effective member of a team.

Ability to set high standards for students, colleagues and for themselves.

Expert communication skills and an ability to develop professional relationships with students.

An ability to motivate learners with enthusiastic and imaginative presentation.

Taking responsibility for the progress of learners within your classes.

Meeting requirements for the assessment and recording of Learners' development. Preparing and marking work to facilitate positive learner development.

Desirable Criteria

A recognised Teaching qualification. Good understanding of using ICT to facilitate curriculum design and delivery.
