de Stafford School is seeking a calm, compassionate, and proactive individual to join our pastoral team as an Access to Learning Coordinator. Working closely with the Learning Mentor, you will support students who have been temporarily removed from lessons due to behavioural or well-being concerns, helping to address barriers to learning and aid reintegration into the classroom. This is a vital and rewarding role for someone who can build strong relationships, manage challenging behaviour, and make a lasting impact on the lives of young people.

Your Opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity to join de Stafford School as an Access to Learning Coordinator, supporting the delivery of high-quality pastoral care for students who are experiencing challenges that impact their ability to engage with mainstream learning. Working under the guidance of the Learning Mentor, you will play a key role in the day-to-day running of our Intervention Zone, providing both reactive and proactive support for students who have been temporarily removed from lessons due to behavioural concerns, emotional difficulties, or wider well-being issues.

The role involves working closely with individuals or small groups of students, helping them to overcome barriers to learning through the delivery of targeted support, structured intervention programmes, and personalised strategies. You will also prepare and deliver differentiated materials, liaise with teaching and pastoral staff, track and monitor student progress, and provide regular feedback to senior leaders, Heads of Year, and the SEND team. A key part of the role is supporting a successful reintegration back into the classroom environment, ensuring that every student is given the best chance to thrive.

What we are looking for

Strong academic foundation with GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths (Grade C or above). Relevant qualification, such as NVQ Level 2 in Supporting Teaching and Learning or equivalent experience. A solid understanding of behaviour management strategies and experience supporting students with behavioural and emotional needs. Confidence in implementing engaging learning strategies and adapting resources to meet individual needs. Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents. Organised and detail-oriented, with the ability to maintain accurate records, manage time well, and prioritise tasks. A confident and empathetic presence, capable of motivating students and supporting their reintegration into mainstream education. Strong IT skills and familiarity with literacy and numeracy strategies to support targeted intervention. A trustworthy, flexible, and proactive approach, with a genuine passion for helping young people succeed. A firm commitment to safeguarding, equality, and maintaining professional boundaries in line with GLF school policies.
