How you'll make a difference:
As an Accountant, you will ensure that South Gloucestershire Council continues to manage its resources effectively and efficiently. Playing an important role, you will primarily support areas within Children's Social Care, Early Intervention and Preventative Services, Quality Assurance, Safeguarding and Commissioning.

What you will be doing:
You will support the Finance Business Partner in preparing revenue and capital budgets and budget monitoring information.
Providing financial support to budget holders, you will offer advice about capital and revenue resources to support the preparation of bids for funding from external bodies and to other customers within the council.
Daily, you will lead on the production of statutory government returns and ensure compliance with financial regulations and legislation relating to specific service areas under your lead.
Preparing and contributing towards formal reports to cabinet and committees, you will act as the principal point of contact for financial support, advice and guidance on the specific service area.
You will manage a small team of finance staff and daily supervision of Finance Officers, with oversight of the Finance Assistants work.
What we need from you:
We require you to hold a recognised CCAB qualification, preferably CIPFA, or AAT alongside relevant professional experience.
You will have considerable post qualification experience covering key financial processes and procedures.
It is essential that you can analyse complex data and provide solutions and recommendations to achieve appropriate outcomes and can communicate this effectively at all levels.
You must be able to supervise a small team to deliver a quality and cost effective financial service and have the skills to build relationships and engage successfully with customers and teams.
Given the elements of the role, you will need to have excellent time management skills to prioritise and set appropriate deadlines.
It is essential that you hold knowledge of current local government finance and forthcoming changes and have experience with local government finance systems, ideally Dynamics 365 and Civica Financials.
