Accounting Systems Contract - 400 Outside IR35
Location: United Kingdom (Hybrid / Remote)
Role Summary
We are looking for a Systems Accountant to optimise financial systems, drive process improvements, and support the technology roadmap of the finance function. You'll work with internal teams and external partners to configure, maintain, and improve accounting systems and integrations, ensuring accuracy, efficiency and scalability.
Key Responsibilities

• Support and maintain the financial systems (including GL, AR/AP, fixed assets, reporting tools), acting as technical expert.
• Lead integration projects: collaborate with IT / third-party providers to integrate financial systems and other business tools.
• Identify process bottlenecks; design and implement process automations, improvements, and system enhancements.
• Develop and deliver documentation, training materials, and support for system users.
• Assist with month-end and year-end tasks as needed; ensure system output supports accurate financial reporting.
• Manage vendor relationships related to system licensing, support, implementation.
• Help shape the finance systems roadmap, contributing to strategy, future-proofing, and compliance with accounting standards/regulations.

Essential Requirements

• Qualified accountant (e.g. ACA, ACCA, CIMA) or equivalent.
• Strong experience (typically 3-5+ years) working with financial/accounting systems, including hands-on experience implementing or managing integrations.
• Technical aptitude: familiarity with tools, databases, system configuration, APIs or similar.
• Proven track record of identifying inefficiencies and delivering system/process improvements.
• Excellent communication skills; able to translate technical detail for non-technical users.
• Strong attention to detail; accuracy is critical.

Desirable / Nice-to-Haves

• Experience with specific financial systems (e.g. SunSystems or other ERP/GL systems).
• Prior involvement in designing and migrating data or system interfaces.
• Exposure to automating financial workflows.
• Experience working in consultancy, project-based, or change environments.
