We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented

part time Accounting Technician

to support our busy Finance team at Sterling Press Ltd. This role is ideal for someone looking to use their skills in

payroll and accounting

within a flexible working arrangement, while still playing a key part in maintaining accurate financial records and supporting essential finance operations.

Working closely with colleagues across departments, you'll help deliver accurate monthly accounts, manage payroll processes, and support both purchase and sales ledger functions when needed. Position: Accounting Technician (Office based)



Hours of Work:



Monday to Friday, 25 to 30 hours per week (part time). Hours and days remain flexible to suit family/personal commitments except for working two days per month (Monday and Tuesday) prior to payroll submission.

Key Responsibilities (not limited to):



Preparing monthly accounts to trial balance. Completing month-end routines including accruals, prepayments, and journals. Reconciling nominal and bank accounts and assisting with cash flow forecasting. Managing and updating the fixed asset register and posting depreciation. Administering suggested payment runs. Covering and supporting Sales and Purchase Ledger functions when required. Assisting in year-end accounts preparation and providing audit support. Maintaining compliance with internal controls and accounting standards. Acting as first point of contact for

payroll

queries for

production staff

. Maintaining and updating the company's time recording system. Processing

monthly payroll

, including accurate

hourly pay

calculations and pension contributions. Ensuring GDPR compliance in handling payroll and financial data. Supporting ad hoc finance and payroll duties as required.

Requirements:



Minimum of 3 years' experience in a finance environment or similar position. Previous experience in a similar role with

hourly payroll

and

general accounting

responsibilities. Strong knowledge of double-entry bookkeeping and payroll systems. Experience producing accounts to trial balance. Proficient in Sage (Sage 200 or Sage 50). Excellent attention to detail, organisational skills, and ability to meet deadlines. Experience using Tharstern would be advantageous. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to improve quality & efficiency of work processes and drive implementation. Exceptional organisational skills. Diligent, structured and organised approach to work - with the ability to multi-task and prioritise. Ability to work in an everchanging, fast-paced environment. A positive 'can-do' attitude with logical problem-solving skills. Takes pride in own work, is thorough with excellent attention to detail. Excellent command of English language (both written and verbal). Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate at all levels. Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 and associated programs with

strong Microsoft Excel

skills where needed.

Qualifications:



AAT Level 3 qualified (or equivalent); part-qualified ACCA/CIMA desirable.

Renumeration:



28,000 to 32,000 per annum prorated, dependant on experience.
