About the Role



We are a well-established and growing construction company looking for an experienced and detail-oriented Purchase Ledger / Accounts Assistant to join our finance team on a part-time, flexible basis. This is a key role where you will be responsible for managing our purchase ledger function, ensuring the smooth and accurate processing of supplier invoices and payments. Experience within the construction industry is essential to understand the specific requirements of our sector, including CIS (Construction Industry Scheme).

Key Responsibilities



Process a high volume of purchase invoices, credit notes, and expense claims accurately and efficiently. Match, batch, and code invoices to appropriate job codes and nominal ledgers. Ensure all invoices are authorised in line with company approval procedures. Manage the supplier ledger, including setting up new supplier accounts and maintaining accurate records. Process payment runs (weekly/fortnightly) via BACs. Reconcile supplier statements and resolve any queries or discrepancies directly with suppliers and internal site/project managers. Assist with month-end procedures, including accruals and prepayments. Handle CIS (Construction Industry Scheme) verification and deductions for subcontractors. Support the wider accounts team with ad-hoc administrative tasks and reporting as required. Basic admin tasks to help the team.

Experience & Skills Required



Essential:

Proven experience in a purchase ledger or accounts assistant role

within the construction industry

.

Essential:

Solid understanding of CIS (Construction Industry Scheme) and experience processing subcontractor payments. Strong proficiency in accounting software (Xero) and Microsoft Excel. Construction manager experience desirable. Excellent attention to detail and a high level of numerical accuracy. Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines. Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, for dealing with suppliers and internal teams. A proactive and professional approach, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
