We are seeking a detail-oriented and organised Assistant Bookkeeper to join our team. The ideal candidate will support the accounting department by managing various bookkeeping tasks, ensuring accurate financial records, and assisting with accounts payable. This role is essential in maintaining the financial health of our organisation and requires proficiency in accounting software.
Responsibilities
Oversee the daily operations of the finance department including accounts payable / receivable, general ledger, payroll and bank reconciliations
Prepare monthly management accounts, cash flow forecasts, and financial statements
Process purchase invoices, payment runs and maintain accurate purchase ledger records
Submit monthly VAT and CIS returns, required P11D information, making the necessary payments for PAYE/NIC, CIS, Corporation Tax, VAT etc and ensure compliance with statutory law and financial regulations (e.g., HMRC, VAT returns, PAYE)
Payroll processing, deal with payroll queries and manage the company pension scheme, including ensuring the company complies with all legal requirements relating to employment
Provide advice and support to the business with technical, tax, payroll and pension queries
Monitor changes in tax/regulations providing relevant information to the business
Qualifications
AAT qualified or ACA/ACCA/CIMA part / fully qualified
Proven experience in a bookkeeping or accounting role
Strong knowledge of UK accounting principles and tax regulations
Proficiency in accounting software (EVO, Xero) is highly desirable
Strong understanding of accounts payable processes
Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
Excellent organisational, analytical and problem solving skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Strong numerical skills and understanding of accounting principles
Effective communication skills, both written and verbal
