Summary

We are seeking an Accounts & Payroll Officer to join the team at Heath Court Hotel in Newmarket.
This is a hands-on, sole-charge role covering Sales & Purchase Ledger (AP/AR), payroll (RTI & pensions), journals, bank reconciliations, and VAT (MTD) in Sage 50 Accounts & Payroll. You will keep our finances accurate, compliant, and on time, working closely with Reception and the General Manager.

Responsibilities

Ledgers (AP/AR):

process invoices, allocate payments/receipts, reconcile accounts, and resolve queries.

Journals & month-end:

prepare and post daily/weekly/monthly journals; support month-end close and budgeting.

Payroll (end-to-end in Sage):

verify timesheets, submit RTI to HMRC, manage auto-enrolment, issue payslips, and make timely payments.

VAT & compliance:

prepare and submit VAT returns (MTD) with full HMRC compliance.

Bank & control reconciliations:

reconcile bank accounts and key balance-sheet control accounts (e.g., VAT, payroll).

Commissions:

manage and reconcile commission against reservations and events; ensure accurate and timely payment.

Reporting:

produce weekly internal reports, monthly management accounts, and prepare the year-end pack for external accountants; assist audits.

Systems & tools

Sage 50 Accounts & Payroll; Guestline (PMS); Microsoft Excel (lookups, pivot tables, reconciliations); HMRC Government Gateway (RTI/MTD); pension portals.

Desirable:

OTA extranets (Booking.com/Expedia); online banking/merchant portals.
