We are looking for an experienced and technically strong
Accounts Senior
to join our growing team at Smooth Accounting. This is a key role for someone who can produce high-quality accounts and tax work with confidence, accuracy, and minimal review points. You must be able to work independently, support the smooth running of your client pod, and deliver a consistently high standard of service.
As an Accounts Senior, you will take ownership of preparing year-end accounts, corporation tax returns, personal tax returns, management accounts, and supporting schedules. You will also be involved in reviewing junior work, handling more complex VAT and accounting queries, and supporting the Client Manager during busy periods or annual leave. This role requires strong technical ability, excellent communication, and a proactive approach to problem-solving and client service.

Able to review and guide junior team members, ensuring accuracy and consistency
Comfortable communicating directly with clients when required

Proactive in spotting issues, identifying improvements, and adding value
Professional, reliable, and aligned with high standards of speed and quality
Studying toward or fully qualified AAT/ACA/ACCA (or equivalent) is expected for this role.
What You Must Be Able to Do
Technical Responsibilities
Prepare and complete year-end accounts, corporation tax returns, and personal tax returns to a standard that requires minimal review
Produce management accounts and supporting schedules to a high level of accuracy
Learn how to prepare tax residency reports and related analyses to a high standard
Review simple accounts and tax returns prepared by junior staff
Handle complex VAT returns and review VAT work prepared by others
Review management accounts to ensure they are complete and client-ready
Review share change paperwork and prepare advanced share documentation when needed
Client & Team Support
Manage a portfolio of sole trader clients, acting as their primary contact and ensuring deadlines are met
Support the Client Manager by assisting with workload management, client communication, and maintaining pod performance during busy periods or annual leave
Identify opportunities to improve client records, processes, or tax efficiency
Communicate professionally with clients regarding queries or information requests
Identify additional services clients may benefit from, such as bookkeeping, management accounts, or VAT reviews
Leadership & Quality Control
Review the work of junior team members, giving constructive feedback and ensuring standards remain high
Uphold accuracy, timeliness, and consistency across all work in the pod
Demonstrate sound professional judgement and technical competence across all areas of accounting and taxation
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: 35,000.00-40,000.00 per year
