We're a small, independent firm of accountants with two very hands-on directors and a loyal, long-standing team. People tend to stay with us - so when someone leaves, it's for life changes, not to join another firm. One of our team recently moved to Ireland, and another, who joined us straight from school and qualified with us, is heading off after ten great years for a complete change of career.

That means there's now an opportunity for someone new to join our busy, close-knit office and make a genuine difference.

A bit about us

We're based in bright, modern offices just off the A19 between Escrick and Riccall - surrounded by countryside, with plenty of parking and even a decent bus route. We've been paperless for years, and most of our clients are digital too.

Our work covers everything from owner-managed limited companies, partnerships, LLPs and sole traders to tax-only clients, including landlords and higher earners with complex affairs. We use IRIS in-house, and our clients typically use Sage, Xero, and QuickBooks.

We're an advisory-led firm - we don't just tick boxes. We think, question, and help our clients make better decisions.

How we work

We see accounts as a vital piece of the puzzle - but not the whole picture.

High-quality digital accounts are essential, but they're only useful if you understand what they mean and what comes next. By the time many firms are finalising a year-end, we're already discussing the next quarter or reviewing the planning drafts we produced the year before.

We don't just crunch numbers; we interpret them, challenge assumptions, and use them to help our clients plan ahead.

Who we're looking for

We need someone with experience -- ideally someone who's technically strong but enjoys thinking beyond the basics.

You'll have a solid grounding in business tax and accounts preparation -- and by "accounts," we mean properly structured, reconciled, digital accounts files that make sense and stand up to scrutiny. That technical foundation is non-negotiable, because it's what allows the advisory side to shine.

Your work will include preparing accounts files, VAT returns, and both personal and corporation tax computations, as well as reviewing bookkeeping and assisting clients with software queries.

But most importantly, you'll be someone who can think - not just process. We're looking for someone who can look beyond the numbers, spot patterns, solve problems, and communicate clearly with clients and colleagues alike.

You might be AAT, ACCA, ACA -- we care more about how you think and what you can do than the letters after your name.

We'd love to hear from you if you:

Can prepare accurate, complete, and efficient digital accounts files Have experience in business and corporation tax (and ideally some exposure to personal tax) Communicate clearly and confidently with clients (without the jargon) Are comfortable working to deadlines and can prioritise when things get busy Think critically, spot patterns, and look ahead Have strong IT and cloud accounting experience (Xero, QuickBooks, Sage) Live within easy reach of our offices (we're office-based, and it works best that way) Have a sense of humour and interests outside work - whether that's sport, music, or anything else that makes you, you*
