We are excited to announce the opening of a brand-new Outpatient Pharmacy at Musgrove Park Hospital and are looking for a qualified Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technician (ACPT) to join our team. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in delivering safe, efficient, and patient-focused pharmacy services.


In this role, you will lead and supervise the day-to-day operations of the dispensary, ensuring a smooth workflow and full compliance with GPhC standards. You will be responsible for accuracy checking prescriptions, including outpatient and blister pack medications, while maintaining the highest standards of safety and legal compliance. Alongside this, you will manage and support the pharmacy team, including dispensers and trainees, fostering a positive and high-performing environment. Working closely with pharmacists, you will review standard operating procedures, monitor key performance indicators, and implement risk management strategies. You will also oversee stock control, ordering, and distribution to ensure medicines are available when patients need them.

Main duties, tasks & skills required

Main Duties


Dispensary Operations


Supervise and manage day-to-day workflow in the outpatient pharmacy.


Complete final accuracy checks on prescriptions, ensuring legal and safety compliance.


Dispense and check blister pack prescriptions for discharged patients.


Maintain accurate records and monitor workload to ensure safe levels.


Team Leadership


Line manage pharmacy dispensers and trainees, including rotas, appraisals, and wellbeing.


Act as deputy for the Outpatient Pharmacist during absences.


Support training and induction of new staff.


Quality & Compliance


Adhere to GPhC standards and maintain ACPT accreditation.


Review and update SOPs in collaboration with Outpatient Pharmacist.


Monitor and report near misses and incidents, providing support and training where necessary.


Stock & Distribution


Manage stock rotation, ordering, and controlled drug records.


Liaise with procurement teams to resolve shortages and minimise wastage.


Ensure shop floor stock complies with legal requirements.


Risk & Safety


Participate in risk assessments and ensure compliance with health and safety laws.


Maintain a clean, organised, and safe working environment.

Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technician (ACPT)

to join our new

Outpatient Pharmacy service

Role Overview




The ACPT will play a key role in the safe and efficient running of the dispensary, ensuring compliance with GPhC standards and supporting the Outpatient Pharmacist. You will lead on accuracy checking, supervise staff, and help maintain a professional and organised environment.

Key Responsibilities



Dispensary Management:

Supervise day-to-day operations, maintain workflow, and ensure prescriptions are dispensed and checked accurately.

Accuracy Checking:

Complete final checks on prescriptions, including outpatient and blister packs, ensuring legal and safety compliance.

Team Leadership:

Line manage pharmacy dispensers and trainees, oversee rotas, appraisals, and staff wellbeing.

Compliance & Quality:

Review SOPs, monitor KPIs, report incidents, and implement corrective training.

Stock Control:

Manage ordering, rotation, and controlled drug records; liaise with procurement to resolve shortages.

Essential Requirements



Registered Pharmacy Technician with the

General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)

. Accredited Checking Technician qualification. Strong organisational and communication skills. Ability to work under pressure and lead a team effectively. Previous experience in a pharmacy setting.
