The dRTP experience programme within the Research Computing Service (RCS) group has a position available for a period of 6 months. Working as part of the ACIT-HUB funded project you will develop hands on experience of working as a Research Technical Professional and contribute as part of your experience programme to the ACIT-HUB training materials for future Research Technical Professionals to learn from.
In the RCS, we support a wide range of research activities across the University and this programme will provide you with a first-hand experience of this. Working with the RCS teams, you will have the opportunity to learn how the large HPC platforms are designed and operate, how best practice software engineering is applied and learn and apply practices that will be applicable in academia and industry alike.
What you would be doing
---------------------------
You will work with the RCS High Performance Computing Platforms team and RCS Research Software Engineering team to develop software and best-practice user facing guides on the operation of the RCS advanced computing platforms.
You will learn to employ best-practice approaches to software engineering, including testing, issue tracking and version control.
You will learn how a High-Performance Computing facility is designed and operated.
You will write and maintain documentation to support ongoing use and development of the HPC platforms and associated software.
You will effectively communicate progress, including regular reports.
You will work independently and prioritise day-to-day tasks appropriately.
You will have the opportunity to work with other partners in the ACIT-HUB project.
What we are looking for

The postholder will be working with the RCS platforms team and the RSE team. As such experience using high-performance computing platforms and associated software development is required.
Postgraduate qualification in a relevant discipline.
Experience of software development, including design, implementation and deployment.
Experience of using Unix based operating systems, tools and utilities.

This is a full-time post.
This role is for a fixed-term contract for 6 months in the ICT Research Computing Services group at Level 3b. The expected start date is 19 January 2026.
