Job Description

We are recruiting to our highly motivated and skilled team of Paediatric Emergency Medicine Advanced Clinical Practitioners in the Emergency Department at Birmingham Children's Hospital.



This post is for a trainee (Band 7) or qualified (Band 8a) Advanced Clinical Practitioner in Paediatric Emergency Medicine.



68,000 children and young people, aged 0-16 years, attend our department every year with a broad range of medical and trauma presentations. We are the regional major trauma centre and have a number of highly specialised medical and surgical teams within the hospital.

Clinical assessment, examination and investigation of the undifferentiated undiagnosed medical, surgical or trauma patient presenting to the Emergency Department.



Paediatric Emergency Medicine (PEM) Advanced Clinical Practitioners (ACP) at Birmingham Women's and Children's Hospital (BWC) will work as part of the multi-disciplinary team to provide outstanding care to children and their families requiring emergency care.



Paediatric Emergency Medicine ACP's will spend around 80% of their hours working clinically on the medical rota providing expert identification, assessment, treatment, and management of the emergency care case load, using complex clinical judgement & decision making, discretion and high-level communication.



Paediatric Emergency Medicine ACP's will demonstrate competence in the four pillars of Advanced Practice: Leadership & Management, Education, Research & clinical practice. They will work with the nursing, medical and AHP teams to monitor and improve standards of care using evidence-based practice, supervision, teaching and supporting colleagues. They will demonstrate skilled professional leadership, and be a role model of the highest calibre, whilst participating in clinical governance initiatives within the service by undertaking and participating in audit and research as part of the MDT, within their specialist field.
