Contract Type: Fixed Term - March 2027



Reports to: Head of Services - Exeter City Community Trust



37.5 hours a week



Job Purpose



To enhance and develop strategic partnerships between Wellbeing Exeter, Exeter Leisure and active travel partners in the city. To increase engagement with walking, cycling, scooting, wheeling and other forms of active travel. The role will support delivery of the city's health and wellbeing objectives through integrated projects with the Wellbeing Exeter programme. The postholder will work to maximise the use of existing infrastructure such as the Exeter Green Circle, cycle routes, walking trails, parks & open spaces, leisure and community facilities. They will seek to embed these projects into the work of Wellbeing Exeter and the city's leisure and wellbeing offer.

Key Responsibilities



Leisure Partnerships & Engagement



Develop and strengthen the partnership between Wellbeing Exeter, Exeter Leisure and other local stakeholders to promote participation in physical activity and healthy lifestyles.

Coordinate joint campaigns and events with leisure and physical activity providers, schools, community groups, and health services.

Support the marketing and communications team in promoting projects across Exeter Leisure's facilities and programmes.

Active Travel Promotion



Lead initiatives to promote walking and cycling as accessible forms of physical activity, including for commuting and leisure.

Create and deliver community-based programmes and guided activities using the Green Circle and other walking/cycling trails.

Work with transport, planning, and environment teams to promote safe, accessible routes and infrastructure.

Wellbeing Exeter Integration



Collaborate with Community Connectors, Community Builders and CPAO'S and other Wellbeing Exeter roles to embed active travel and leisure opportunities into personalised wellbeing plans.

Support data collection and reporting for active travel and leisure-related health outcomes.

Facilitate training and knowledge sharing for community-facing roles on the benefits of active travel and leisure engagement.

Community & Stakeholder Engagement



Act as the key contact for community groups, volunteers, and partners interested in developing or supporting walking and cycling groups or events.

Engage residents across demographics, with a focus on reducing inactivity and health inequalities.

Seek funding and sponsorship opportunities to sustain and grow partnership initiatives.

Person Specification



Essential:



Experience in community engagement, public health, leisure, or sustainable transport initiatives.

Proven ability to build and manage partnerships across sectors.

Strong understanding of the health benefits of physical activity, especially active travel.

Excellent communication, project management, and organisational skills.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively across multiple teams.

Ability to work with people as individuals, be understanding, non-judgemental and empathetic of the issues they face and see them as equal to you.

Ability to think creatively about community engagement and how to engage people who are physically inactive with different types of community and physical activity.

Ability to build and maintain trusting and positive relations with colleagues, individuals, groups and communities.

Desirable:



Knowledge of the local area, including Exeter's walking/cycling networks and Green Circle.

Experience with behaviour change or social prescribing initiatives.

Working Conditions



Role may require occasional evening and weekend work for community events or engagement sessions.

Travel around the city and some outdoor work required.
