Job Summary

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Activities Director to join our team in a care home setting. The ideal candidate will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing engaging activities that enhance the quality of life for residents, particularly those in assisted living and nursing home environments. This role requires excellent communication skills and a genuine passion for senior care, especially in providing support for residents with dementia.

Duties

Develop and implement a diverse range of activities tailored to the interests and abilities of residents. Foster an inclusive environment that encourages participation from all residents, promoting social interaction and emotional well-being. Collaborate with care staff to ensure activities align with individual care plans and address the specific needs of residents. Communicate effectively with residents, families, and staff to promote upcoming events and gather feedback on activities. Maintain accurate records of participation and evaluate the effectiveness of programmes to continuously improve offerings. Organise special events, outings, and celebrations that enhance community spirit within the care home. Ensure all activities are conducted safely and in accordance with health regulations.

Requirements

Previous experience in a similar role within a care home, nursing home, or assisted living facility is preferred. Strong understanding of dementia care principles and the ability to engage effectively with residents experiencing cognitive decline. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to connect with seniors on a personal level. A caring attitude towards residents, demonstrating empathy and patience in all interactions. Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team while also being self-motivated. Relevant qualifications or training in recreational therapy or a related field would be advantageous. Flexibility to adapt activities based on resident needs and preferences.
