Job Description

We are pleased to be able to recruit to the post for Activity Coordinator at Rampton High Secure Hospital.



Rampton Hospital is one of 3 national high secure hospitals for people with mental health needs, including the national services for people with learning disabilities, d/Deaf services and Women's services.



As post holder, you will have a key role in supporting patients in daily tasks and meaningful activities, and will be a key link between ward based activities and day units.



You will:



Work as part of a supportive multi-disciplinary team

Work flexibly to support patients in a variety of contexts as per hospital staffing demands

Offer a wide range of ward and day unit based activities

Contribute to the care pathways of male and female patients in high dependency care with complex needs and high-risk behaviours.

Act as a positive role model to colleagues and patients.

Plan a ward activity programme to engage patients in the Recovery process.

Act as a link between the Ward and Therapies teams.

The Therapies and Education Service at Rampton Hospital is proud to support all our patients in their recovery journeys. The team includes a wide range of disciplines including Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language Therapy, Education staff, Technical Instructors with a wide range of skills, Therapeutic Involvement Workers, Peer Support Workers and more.



We have a commitment to providing staff wellbeing support, supervision and training opportunities.



To work flexibly to support patients wherever required as per staffing requirements.



Work with a group of patients with complex needs, who exhibit challenging behaviours, in the context of mental illness and personality disorder diagnosis.



Develop and plan group and individual activities directly linked to individual patient's needs and choice.



Lead in creative programme planning of topical, interesting and therapeutic activities aimed at male/female patients with diverse needs linked with the TES Day Unit to provide a full activity programme as part of the recovery process.



To work 37.5 hours over a 5 day week (Monday- Friday).



To undertake escorting duties as required.



To prepare equipment/materials for each individual/group session and ensure this is in line with Infection Control and security guidelines.



Maintain and order stock through procurement as required for the ward.



Work to a high standard in completion of all duties.



To support patient's to engage in meaningful day activities and contribute to the ward and Care Stream Community.



To link and support the Ward Occupational Therapist, Occupational Therapy Assistant and Ward/Day Unit Manager to assess for patients with low motivational conditions and support them to engage in their treatment.



Utilise knowledge and skills gained through the achievement of relevant qualifications or experience to undertake direct patient activities related to engagement work.



Responsible for creating a positive therapeutic milieu which supports and promotes positive regard, respect, choice and personal growth.



Deliver a planned activity programme, which is gender sensitive and patient centred, with the long term goal of recovery.



Actively contribute to the Day Unit Programme Planning process to ensure all patients on the ward are encouraged to engage in meaningful activity both on and off ward.



Respect peoples cultural values and diversity needs, treating all patient's with dignity and respect involving them in shared decision making and obtaining their consent within the Mental Health Capacity Act.



Actively promote a responsible professional attitude at all times.



To work collaboratively with patients and staff to contribute to in-house training programmes for staff and specific programmes for patients.



Support service improvement or Meaningful Day Activity.

Please note that this post does not meet the pay level required for a Skilled worker visa.

Successful applicants with no prior NHS experience would normally be placed at the bottom of the band in line with Agenda for Change. This salary is below the minimum salary required for sponsorship for a Skilled Worker / Health & Care visa. In these circumstances the Trust would not, therefore, be able to sponsor for a Skilled Worker / Health & Care visa.

Please note applicants will be required to pay for their DBS check. Costs are deducted from salary following appointment. The cost of the DBS application is 26.40 (standard) or 54.40 (enhanced), this cost will be deducted from your salary over the first 2 months of employment.



You are encouraged to enrol for the DBS Update Service. An annual fee of 16 per year applies.
