Job Description

Permanent position 30 hours per week over 4 days. You must be a motivated nurse, who has an interest and experience in the field of acute pain management You will be part of a small team responsible for ensuring that inpatients, with acute pain needs receive appropriate, evidence-based interventions and education, across all specialities. Education is a major component of this role; you must be confident planning and delivering both formal and informal educational sessions to members of the multidisciplinary team. This role offers opportunity to be part of a forward-thinking team where you will be encouraged to contribute to service development strategies Main duties of the job The successful candidate will be expected to manage their own caseload of inpatients with acute pain.



They should be someone with a genuine interest in the management of pain, a working knowledge of the currently used analgesic techniques and substantial years' experience looking after acutely unwell patients in a surgical ward-based environment, or the equivalent. They will need to be organised and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. They will find themselves in difficult consultations and should be able to manage these situations with sensitivity and professionalism. It is essential they be a good team player; but equally someone confident to work autonomously.



The role includes independent decision making about patients' pain management plans. They will need to work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team, be approachable and a good role model. Teaching is an integral part of this role, and the post holder should have completed a recognised teaching qualification or provide evidence of teaching experience. As a member of a small team the post holder will be expected to undertake/contribute to audit and implement change within the speciality About us The Inpatient Pain Service is a small, supportive and highly motivated team who work hard to provide an excellent pain service.



It is primarily a nurse-led service however, we work alongside one anaesthetic pain lead , who provide support on weekly pain ward rounds. As a team we have a common ethos of providing the best and safest care possible for our service users. To achieve this, we work closely with all members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure that inpatients, both with acute and complex pain needs, receive appropriate evidence-based interventions and education. The Band 6 Clinical Nurse Specialist position is a role for an approachable, enthusiastic and motivated nurse who is able to work in a small team.



They should be someone who wants to make a difference to both service users and colleagues. They will also have opportunity to develop their own skills and knowledge.
