Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the acute therapies team within Epsom ad St Helier University Trust. The role consists of supporting the Therapy teams to provide assessment, treatment and rehab for a wide variety of patients within the acute inpatient setting.

There is opportunity for clinical learning and the role sits within a team full of highly skilled and experienced therapists. The team covers most inpatient areas within the acute sites and therefore has a diverse patient group varying from elderly care/frailty, surgical, orthopaedic, respiratory and hyper-acute clinical areas.

The role of a therapy assistant is to work closely with the qualified therapists to provide hands on treatment to patients including physical rehabilitation and promotion of independence. The assistants are also vital in supporting the team to run day to day. This role provides the opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of our patients.

Main duties of the job

Epsom and St Helier provides a range of rehabilitation services within Epsom Hospital. These work closely together and in collaboration with other agencies to provide a dovetailed service to mainly Epsom and surrounding residents with rehabilitation needs.

This role is to assist Therapists in providing a high standard of therapy services to in-patients and to undertake duties to support the smooth functioning of the therapy departments and service.

All new support workers, including therapy Technical Instructors, are required to undertake the Care Certificate, which is the start of the career journey for Healthcare Support Workers (HCSWs). The aim of the Care Certificate is to ensure that all new and existing support staff are taught and can demonstrate the right skills, knowledge and behavior to provide high quality compassionate care.

Working for our organisation

Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust provides a range of medical services to approximately 490,000 people living across southwest London and northeast Surrey. In addition, we provide more specialist services, in particular renal and neonatal intensive care, to a wider area, covering parts of Sussex and Hampshire.

We serve an area that is rich in diversity, with a mix of urban and rural areas, and differing levels of quality of life. We cover some of the most prosperous postcodes in the country, as well as some poorer areas. Together with our colleagues at NHS Surrey and NHS Sutton and Merton, we work to make sure that we deliver the best possible care to the communities we serve.

The Trust employs approximately 5,000 staff across its hospitals and is supported by over 500 volunteers.
