Job Description

Surrey & Borders NHS Foundation Trusts Adult Neurodevelopmental Service is looking for an ADHD Nurse Practitioner/ Non-Medical Prescriber (Adult ADHD) for the prescribing and review of treatments for adults with ADHD, with demonstrable experience and expertise in reviewing the ADHD medications of adults, using a holistic, evidence-based approach. This will include ADHD -related nursing skills; crisis intervention, medication management, epilepsy care, and mental health comorbidities.

General shift timings:

Monday to Friday from 8AM to 7PM

Working hours:

TBC Per week



To undertake annual reviews of Adults with ADHD, their medication and it's efficacy from a defined caseload

To carry out risk assessments, identifying risks and comorbid conditions that may impact on prescribing and/or require referral to other services.



Prescribe and manage ADHD medication in line with NICE and independent/supplementary prescribing frameworks.

Communicate review process, findings and treatment plans to GPs and other relevant services, adhering to shared care protocol

Collaborate with Consultants/medical colleagues to ensure pharmacological therapies are optimised and delivered safely.



maintain accurate records of appointments, caseload, and time/resource use.

Keep up-to-date documentation of nursing records in line with Trust policies and legislation.



Work in accordance with Trust Non-Medical Prescribing (NMP) Policy and participate in NMP support groups.

Implement and support recommendations arising from audits and evaluations.



Engage in safeguarding responsibilities for adults, children, domestic abuse, and public protection.

Comply with Data Protection Act requirements and maintain confidentiality unless legally obliged to disclose information.

Clinical Responsibilities



To provide patients of the Adult Neurodevelopmental service with an annual review of their ADHD, their medication and it's efficacy.



To prescribe appropriate medications for the treatment of ADHD, based on the annual review conducted with the patient, physical observations supplied by the patient and comorbid conditions that may impact on prescribing

To carry out risk assessments, identifying risks and referring to/supporting other services to manage that risk



To prescribe and manage ADHD medication in line with NICE and independent/supplementary prescribing frameworks.



To undertake independent and supplementary prescribing as appropriate.



To communicate review process, findings and treatment plans to GPs and other relevant services, adhering to shared care protocol



To inform GP findings of assessments and treatment plans and communicate with GPs, other services and agencies as needed, author and adhere to shared care protocol.



Competence Responsibilities



To ensure safe, effective, and person-centred care delivery in line with NICE guidance, shared care protocols, and evidence-based practice.

As an NMP the CNS will be responsible for practicing within competence and working with the Consultants and medical colleagues to ensure that pharmacological therapies are optimised and delivered in accordance with agreed clinical guidelines.

To be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of clinical work, adhering to the NMC Code, Trust policies, and statutory frameworks (e.g., Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act).

To maintain professional competence by engaging in CPD, supervision, and reflective practice.



Patient/public responsibilities

To uphold standards of record-keeping, clinical audit, and service evaluation, ensuring quality improvement.

To foster collaborative working relationships with service users, families, GPs, and other healthcare professionals.
