About the role


This is an exciting opportunity to join the team that have been working on the rapid clinical development of vaccines against COVID-19 and other important outbreak pathogens including Marburg and Ebola. The team are running pioneering studies on experimental controlled human challenge studies for bacterial and viral infections and phase I-III studies of experimental vaccines to transform human health.

You will play an important role working on vaccine and vaccine-related studies, including against COVID-19 and other threats to human health, recently developed human models of typhoid and paratyphoid infection and pneumococcal, RSV and influenza challenge studies in a collaboration with the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM).

The post is fixed term for 12 months in the first instance, with the possibility to extend provided further external funding is available.

About you


This is a post for a medical doctor and would be especially suitable for trainees in infectious or tropical diseases, medical microbiology/virology, immunology, gastroenterology or acute internal medicine, but would also be suitable for trainees in any other specialty, including general practice or on completion of core medical training.

The post will include contribution to a clinical rota, an on-call rota and includes some evening and weekend work.

This research is expected to lead to high quality publications and includes opportunities for suitable candidates to study for a higher degree (MSc/MD/DPhil). If the candidate is interested in pursuing an academic research career, they will be given the opportunity and encouragement to seek independent research funding and to develop a laboratory, clinical or a translational research proposal.
