Adult Social Care Lawyer




Annual Salary: 47,181 to 51,536 Location: Sheffield Job Type: Hybrid (flexibility to work from home and attend the office weekly)

Join our Legal Services team as an Adult Social Care Lawyer, where you will play a crucial role in providing expert legal advice, representation, and advocacy across a wide range of adult social care matters. This position offers the opportunity to directly influence outcomes for some of Sheffield's most vulnerable residents.


Day-to-day of the role:




Deliver legal support on complex issues under the Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act 2005, and Mental Health Act 1983. Conduct litigation and advocacy in courts and tribunals, including Court of Protection proceedings. Draft legal documents such as pleadings, statements, instructions to counsel, and settlement agreements. Advise on safeguarding, deprivation of liberty, ordinary residence disputes, and unpaid care home fees. Support the Council's statutory and strategic functions through high-quality legal advice. Represent the Council at committees, boards, and external meetings. Mentor colleagues and contribute to training and continuous improvement initiatives.

Required Skills & Qualifications:




Qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or FCILEX with strong technical knowledge in adult social care law. At least three years' post-qualification experience. Proven experience in community care law, litigation, and advocacy. Strong analytical and drafting skills. A collaborative and innovative approach to legal practice. Commitment to fairness, inclusion, and continuous professional development.

If you are appointed to this role, your starting salary will be at the bottom of the grade. If you provide payslip evidence that your basic pay is greater than the bottom of the grade, we will consider starting you at the point of minimum advantage within the grade.
