LB Barking and Dagenham are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Adults Lawyer to join a friendly, supportive team and to undertake a mix of stimulating and rewarding community care work.

Adult\'s Safeguarding Lawyer duties include;

  • Undertake and manage a full caseload of legal work in the area of Adult Social Care Law and Community Care Law and progress to conclusion (with or without supervision dependent on experience)
  • Manage a caseload consisting of Adult Social Care, Community Care, No recourse to Public Funds, Age Assessment and Immigration cases, including applications for authorisation of Deprivation of Liberty and defending threats of or application for Judicial Review prioritising work according to risk
  • Carry out research and provide legal advice, and negotiate and agree, draft, prepare and process legal agreements and documents, and all other necessary and appropriate documentation associated with matters in the area of Adult Social Care Law, and Community Care Law
  • Provide legal support to the Council to enable and facilitate the provision of high-quality legal service
  • Provide legal advice in relation to and prepare formal Legal Implications for reports under the supervision of the Principal Lawyer, to relevant committees, panels, working parties and other meetings as required
  • Represent the Council in proceedings within the Court of Protection and all other relevant Courts dealing with matters pertaining to Adult Safeguarding and Community Care
  • Undertake advocacy such as directions appointments and applications for order by consent, case management discussions and hearings appropriate to experience under supervision
Adult\'s Safeguarding Lawyer will;
  • Be qualified solicitor, barrister, or chartered legal executive with advocacy certificate, able and committed to deliver work in a flexible manner including outside normal office hours, when the role necessitates the same
  • Have some knowledge of local government and how it affects the work of the team, however applicants from other sectors are encouraged to apply
