We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Advanced Manufacturing Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will play a key role in researching, developing, and implementing advanced manufacturing technologies and applications across our business. You will collaborate closely with the global operations team to identify and implement new engineered solutions that enhance our ability to deliver products to cost, time, and quality.

You will also participate in and lead projects with Engineering and R&D departments to investigate where alternative manufacturing processes can drive new value within John Crane\'s product lines. Self-driven external research with other leading technology companies will be required to support business initiatives and an element of travel will be expected domestically & internationally.

The role is based in Slough with the possibility to work from home a couple of days per week.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Capture and communicate proposals for the application of 3D printing / Additive Manufacturing technologies and others for the purpose of cost reduction, improved performance, quality & process capability enhancement and safety improvements.
  • Work closely with program managers to support and where required, take ownership of the delivery of key strategic 3D printing / Additive Manufacturing projects across John Crane operations where required.
  • Design, manufacture, test and implement 3D printing / Additive Manufacturing applications and solutions, such as bespoke tooling, to support flexibility and create value across internal operations.
  • Work with 3rd parties and other JC departments to develop, manufacture and implement new product designs that leverage advanced manufacturing capabilities to meet the needs of John Crane customers or otherwise.
  • Investigate, assess & report on the feasibility of various types of new advanced manufacturing equipment, software and processes that are available on the market
  • Work with suppliers and other internal departments to implement, maintain and optimize new advanced manufacturing equipment & processes that are deployed within the business
  • Assist with establishing and communicating new best practice requirements for equipment, tooling, and materials as part of the \'prove & move\' deployment model for advanced manufacturing technologies
  • Where required, provide support and input to NPD projects and other Industry 4.0 projects being run by the advanced manufacturing team
  • Attend seminars, conferences and exhibitions to keep abreast of, and report on the latest developments in advanced manufacturing technology
  • Support and lead various outreach activities within the business to educate key stakeholders and teams on Industry 4.0 / advanced manufacturing processes & applications
  • Engage with & manage relationships with 3rd party companies to expand John Crane\'s network of advanced manufacturing partners, suppliers & industry links
  • Additional duties as assigned

The Individual
  • Minimum, an undergraduate degree in mechanical / manufacturing engineering or related technical / scientific disciplines (Essential)
  • Experience working with computer-assisted equipment and associated software including MS Office applications. (Essential)
  • Experience in 3D modelling, CAD, simulation and product design techniques (Essential)
  • Self-motivated, able to challenge existing processes and drive a change culture (Essential)
  • Experience/knowledge of 3D printing technologies, processes, software and/or materials (Highly Desirable)
  • Experience with Lean/Six Sigma and Continuous Improvement concepts (Desirable)
  • Experience of Industry 4.0 and related advanced manufacturing technologies (Desirable)
  • Experience of project leadership and project management methodologies / tools (Desirable)
  • Knowledge of manufacturing plant operations and equipment (Beneficial)
