This advanced cancer and aseptics pharmacist role is an integral member of the cancer multidisciplinary team responsible for all pharmaceutical aspects of the patients care so that the patient journey is as smooth as possible. The role is pivotal to the safe administration of medicines.
The role requires a proactive positive approach and an excellent team player. At BHT the post holder will gain experience working with a wide range of haematology and oncology patients ranging from paediatrics to adults. The post holder will gain valuable aseptic experience in our aseptic suite and they will liaise closely with the chemotherapy trained nurses on the day units and the inpatient haematology ward where we offer stem cell transplants. BHT Cancer service is growing rapidly and newly NICE approved medications are being initiated and the service offering is being developed. As an integral part of the team this role will be working with the multi-disciplinary teams to develop the services.
Main duties of the job
To clinically verify prescriptions for patients in a timely and accurate manner. To accuracy check dispensed medicines and support logistics to deliver correct cancer and supportive medicines accurately and on time.
To work with clinical teams at the point of care delivery to understand patients medication history, clinical needs and providing medicines knowledge as required to support the patient journey.
To support patients understanding of their medicines through counselling, drug history taking, and medicines reconciliation. The role is expected to act in a compassionate, empathetic, and professional manner that supports the pharmacy department and trusts values.
The Advanced Pharmacist for Cancer & Aseptics is accountable for developing and maintaining a clinical prescribing service to cancer patients as required under clinical supervision.
The role is responsible for the provision of pharmaceutical care to the cancer directorate and associated areas. The post holder will manager medicines related risk and ensure that the Trust Medicines' Policy and Medicines legislation is complied with.
The post holder collaborates with the accountable pharmacist for the unlicensed Aseptic Unit at Stoke Mandeville Hospital, to facilitate the delivery of compliant aseptic medicines; in accordance with the National Standard for Good Manufacturing and agreed local and national objectives and policies.
