Introduction
We are seeking an experienced social work practitioner to join our Building Safer Relationships team. This is an exciting opportunity for those with a passion for supporting those vulnerable to domestic abuse and intervening to make meaningful change.
The Building Safer Relationships team is based within our Multi-Agency Child Protection Intervention Service who are at the heart of supporting families in Lewisham. The service is based within the Family Help and Care division and works closely with allocated social work teams to provide intervention to victims/survivors and perpetrators of domestic abuse.
The Building Safer Relationships team work alongside the Family Help team to intervene where domestic abuse is identified as a key concern for the family and completes work with adults in the family to make meaningful change. The team complete pieces of work where children are subject to child in need plans, child protection plans, Public Law Outline and care proceedings.
As well as intervention, the Building Safer Relationships team complete risk & vulnerability assessments for care proceedings assessing the concerns around domestic abuse and giving recommendations that feed into long term care planning for children.
It's an exciting time to join Lewisham as we are at the forefront of social work reform as a Wave 2 Families First for Children Pathfinder Local Authority. The Multi-Agency Child Protection Intervention Service is at the heart of delivering key interventions that keep children safe. The post holder will be part of a Local Authority taking a lead role in supporting other Local Authorities to embed the reforms as part of the wider DfE national roll out.
What's the role?
We are looking for a creative and passionate social work practitioner who wants to be part of leading an intervention team committed to addressing domestic abuse in Lewisham. The role involves supervision of staff, writing court assessments, group facilitation, 1:1 work and leading best practice in domestic abuse. You will be a leader in supporting domestic abuse practice in the frontline services and work alongside an allocated social worker.
About You
You will be an experienced social worker with significant post qualifying experience and a thorough knowledge of current child protection practice including domestic abuse. You will be skilled at delivering interventions with families and an excellent understanding of the risks and vulnerabilities within the domestic abuse context.
You will be keen to be part of a service modelling best practice and be confident in supporting colleagues and partners to address the risks around domestic abuse through intervention and safety planning. You will have a passion for supporting those experiencing domestic abuse, including 1:1 work and facilitation of group work.
Supervisory experience is desirable as the role involves deputising for the team manager and supervising staff. You will have a willingness to learn and develop your specialist skills in domestic abuse.
