Advanced Structural Analysis Engineer

Liverpool, ENG, GB, United Kingdom

Job Description

Role Summary

Enki Marine is seeking a skilled and motivated Advanced Structural Analysis Engineer

to support the delivery of the DEEP (Digitally Enabled Efficient Propeller) project. This role involves performing advanced structural simulations, stress analysis and fatigue assessment of marine propellers. Working closely with our in-house team and academic/industrial partners, you'll help validate the mechanical performance of new design architectures and support integration with other numerical design tools.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a cutting-edge maritime innovation initiative shaping the future of clean propulsion.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Develop and execute structural FEA simulations of propeller designs under static and dynamic loading conditions. Collaborate with CFD engineers to integrate fluid loads into FEA models and assess fluid-structure interaction. Evaluate the impact of different materials, manufacturing parameters, and design features on structural integrity and fatigue life. Contribute to the development of a topology optimisation framework to support the design team. Interpret and communicate simulation results to support design optimisation and risk assessment. Contribute to model validation using test data from project partners (e.g. fatigue and corrosion testing). Evaluating designs against standards and classification requirements to ensure compliance and supporting future certification pathways. Support the development of design and qualification efforts through simulation insights. Document analysis procedures and results to feed into project deliverables and certification roadmaps. Work collaboratively with Enki Marine's technical team and partners across simulation, design, and manufacturing.

Person Specification

Essential:

Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture, or a related field. Proven experience using FEA software (e.g. Abaqus, ANSYS, COMSOL). Strong understanding of mechanical stress, fatigue, vibration, and material performance. Proven experience in structural fatigue analysis. Proven experience in research and development projects. Experience with complex geometries and mesh generation. Ability to work independently and deliver high-quality technical outputs to deadlines.

Desirable:

3-5 years of experience in marine engineering or rotating machinery. Familiarity with AM processes (e.g. WAAM, Laser DED). Experience with multi-physics coupling or integration with CFD tools. Familiarity with topology optimisation techniques. Knowledge of certification or classification requirements in engineering design. Experience working on publicly funded R&D projects or familiarity with project delivery/reporting in a collaborative research environment. Basic project management skills or experience coordinating technical work packages.
