Summary
As an Advanced Student Support Mentor specialising in Functional Skills (Maths & English), you will guide learners aged 16-18 through their educational journey. You'll provide a supportive environment that fosters significant personal growth and academic achievement, with a particular focus on developing essential literacy and numeracy skills.
Responsibilities
Mentor Key Stage 4 students one-on-one, helping them navigate complex academic and personal challenges, specifically in the context of Functional Skills Maths and English.
Help students set and achieve ambitious goals, with a clear focus on improving their Functional Skills attainment.
Facilitate engaging learning for development, promoting strong foundational skills and critical thinking.
Act as a positive, proactive role model, inspiring students in their learning.
Collaborate with educators on individualised support plans, including for SEND students, ensuring their needs are met.
Monitor progress and provide constructive feedback.
Promote an inclusive and respectful learning environment where students feel confident tackling challenges.
Requirements
We seek talented individuals with proven experience in advanced mentoring, learning support, and/or Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). You should have a passion for education and a proven track record supporting Key Stage 4 learners, particularly in Functional Skills Maths and English.
Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills are vital, alongside an ability to inspire and guide students toward growth and success in their maths and English studies. Experience in educational/youth work or specialised SEN support is essential. A proactive approach to problem-solving and understanding diverse learning needs is also required. A strong understanding of the Functional Skills curriculum for Maths and English is highly desirable.
Working Arrangements
This position is offered on a term-time only basis working approximately 25 per week.
