Purpose of the role

AFME is looking for a highly motivated individual with a strong interest in the development of the UK\xe2\x80\x99s financial services policy agenda to join our advocacy team, and to coordinate and drive the association\xe2\x80\x99s advocacy activities in the UK.

You will monitor key drivers behind the evolution of the UK\xe2\x80\x99s financial services policy agenda and be the organisation\xe2\x80\x99s internal contact point for understanding evolutions in the UK\xe2\x80\x99s future regulatory framework and the official sector landscape. Additionally, you will maintain a centralised view of AFME\xe2\x80\x99s UK workstreams and advocacy priorities, ensuring the latter are appropriately formulated in line with AFME\xe2\x80\x99s overall objective of promoting the development of open and competitive capital markets.

Based in London, you will be an integral part of the pan-European advocacy team and work with advocacy and policy colleagues to deliver on our Europe-wide advocacy coverage model. You will have exposure to a wide range of policy areas, AFME members and official sector stakeholders in the UK.

Responsibilities

  • Identify key UK official sector interlocutors of relevance to AFME (principally, but not limited to, Treasury, Parliament, FCA, BOE, PRA, etc.), build and manage these relationships for the organisation
  • Gather intelligence and ensure members and colleagues are informed of the underlying political drivers behind the UK\xe2\x80\x99s financial services agenda
  • Working with colleagues and members, support the development of AFME\xe2\x80\x99s positions on the overall regulatory architecture in the UK
  • Closely track the regulatory agenda with respect to the organisations\xe2\x80\x99 defined priorities across a wide range of policy areas, including primary and secondary markets, as well as post-trade, banking regulation, AML, sustainable finance and crypto asset regulation
  • Maintain an overview of UK workstreams to which AFME contributes and, in cooperation with colleagues, articulate the organisation\xe2\x80\x99s priorities across these for review by senior management and the AFME Board
  • Coordinate AFME\xe2\x80\x99s overall participation in the UK financial services trade association landscape
  • Organise advocacy engagement and briefings for the CEO and senior colleagues to ensure that AFME\xe2\x80\x99s overarching messages are delivered to principal decision-makers
  • In the context of AFME\xe2\x80\x99s European scope, work closely with subject matter experts in the policy & advocacy teams to ensure that advocacy plans include outreach to the relevant stakeholders in the UK and consistency of messages across jurisdictions
  • Cooperate with Communications colleagues to ensure media visibility as needed
Skills and experience

Essential:
  • 3-5 years experience working either in government, a regulatory authority, financial services firm, trade association or professional services firm on financial service policy matters in the UK and/or EU
  • Demonstrated ability to grasp implications of policy developments across a broad range of files
  • Good understanding of the UK\xe2\x80\x99s future regulatory framework
  • Capacity to identify opinion formers and other key stakeholders of relevance
  • Attention to detail and strong drafting, as well as verbal communication skills
  • Strong self-motivation, intellectual curiosity and high levels of energy and social engagement
  • Team player, with an ability to network internally as well as with members and external stakeholders at all levels
  • Strong work ethic and ability to work to tight deadlines.
Desirable:
  • Familiarity with current wholesale capital market policy issues in the UK and/or other AFME core policy areas
  • Experience of working within a matrix organisation
