Role Overview:

The AI/Machine Learning Engineer will be a critical member of our advanced analytics and technology organization, responsible for the end-to-end lifecycle of AI/ML solutions, from model development and training to deployment, monitoring, and optimization in production environments. This role demands deep expertise in machine learning algorithms, software engineering principles, MLOps practices, and proficiency in programming languages such as Python. You will play a key role in architecting and building scalable AI/ML systems, enabling intelligent automation and data-informed strategies across various aspects of the development, from smart city infrastructure and operational efficiency to personalized customer experiences and sustainability initiatives. You will work closely with data scientists, data engineers, software developers, and business stakeholders to deliver robust and impactful AI/ML solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

Design, develop, train, and deploy scalable machine learning models and AI algorithms to solve complex business problems and create intelligent systems. Engineer and implement robust MLOps pipelines for continuous integration, continuous delivery (CI/CD), and continuous training/monitoring of AI/ML models. Optimize and fine-tune machine learning models for performance, scalability, and resource efficiency in production environments. Collaborate with data scientists to translate research prototypes into production-ready AI/ML systems. Work with data engineering teams to build and maintain efficient data pipelines for model training and inference. Develop and maintain APIs and integration points for AI/ML models to be consumed by other applications and services. Monitor the performance of deployed models, identify issues, and implement improvements or retraining strategies. Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in AI, machine learning, MLOps, deep learning, and relevant software engineering practices. Contribute to the development of AI governance policies, ethical AI frameworks, and best practices for model development and deployment. Mentor junior engineers and contribute to a culture of technical excellence and innovation within the team. Ensure the security, reliability, and scalability of AI/ML systems. Document AI/ML system architectures, model specifications, deployment processes, and operational procedures comprehensively.

Stakeholder Management & Collaboration:

Effectively collaborate with business leaders, product managers, data scientists, and operational teams to understand requirements and translate them into scalable AI/ML solutions. Work closely with data engineers to define data requirements for model development and production systems. Partner with software development and DevOps teams to ensure seamless integration and deployment of AI/ML models. Clearly articulate technical designs, model capabilities, and system performance to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Translate business problems into well-defined AI/ML engineering challenges and project plans.

Technical Excellence & Engineering Rigor:

Demonstrate mastery in software engineering principles and their application to building AI/ML systems. Proven experience in developing, deploying, and managing machine learning models in production (e.g., regression, classification, clustering, NLP, computer vision, deep learning). Strong programming skills in Python, and proficiency with relevant AI/ML libraries and frameworks (e.g., scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch, Keras, Hugging Face, Spark MLlib). Expertise in MLOps tools and practices (e.g., MLflow, Kubeflow, Seldon Core, CI/CD tools like Jenkins/GitLab CI). Experience with big data technologies (e.g., Spark, Hadoop) and cloud-based AI/ML platforms and services (e.g., AWS SageMaker, Azure Machine Learning, Google AI Platform). Proficiency in containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) for deploying ML models. Strong skills in API development (e.g., REST, gRPC) and microservices architecture. Ability to design and implement robust monitoring, logging, and alerting for AI/ML systems.

Provide technical leadership on AI/ML engineering projects, guiding architectural decisions and implementation strategies. Lead technical discussions on model deployment, scalability, and MLOps, presenting solutions to diverse audiences. Clearly articulate the AI/ML engineering vision, project roadmaps, and the operational impact of deployed systems. Proactively identify and champion opportunities to leverage AI/ML for business innovation, automation, and operational efficiency. Contribute to the development of engineering best practices, coding standards, and knowledge sharing within the AI/ML team.

Experience & Qualifications:

Skills & Experience:

A Engineer, Software Engineer (with a focus on ML), or in a similar role, with a proven track record of building and deploying impactful AI/ML solutions in production. Expert-level knowledge of machine learning algorithms, model development lifecycle, and MLOps principles. Strong programming proficiency in Python and extensive experience with relevant AI/ML libraries, frameworks, and MLOps tools. Experience working with large datasets, distributed computing frameworks (e.g., Spark), and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP). Hands-on experience in deploying, monitoring, and maintaining machine learning models in production environments. Strong software engineering skills, including API development, containerization, and CI/CD practices. Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills, with a focus on system design and reliability. Experience in specific domains such as smart cities, autonomous systems, NLP, computer vision, or large-scale industrial AI is a plus.

Qualifications:

Master's or Ph.D. Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, or a related quantitative/engineering field. Relevant certifications in AI/ML, MLOps, or cloud platforms (e.g., AWS Certified Machine Learning - Specialty, Azure AI Engineer Associate, Google Professional Machine Learning Engineer) are a significant plus. A strong portfolio of AI/ML projects, contributions to open-source AI/ML projects, or publications is highly desirable.
