The Airfield Operations Support Specialist is responsible for managing competency assessments for Airside Operations colleagues, ensuring they maintain required standards through evaluations and coaching. The role also supports the development and operational delivery of the Heathrow Snow Plan, including process drafting and vehicle readiness. Additionally, the post holder assists with daily operational needs such as resourcing and project support.


This role requires you to obtain and maintain a firearms/shotgun certificate. The application process will check for evidence of disqualifying criminal convictions, and also will require you to disclose information (via your GP) about your medical history to check for relevant medical conditions, which you will be responsible for obtaining. Develop and conduct competency assessments across Airfield Operations, Transport activities, vehicle use, and Winter Operations, aligned with the Airside Operations Competency Matrix. Provide coaching and feedback to colleagues following assessments, ensuring high standards are maintained and documented. Support the development and implementation of the Heathrow Snow Plan Airside, including drafting procedures and ensuring operational readiness. Assist with daily operational needs such as resourcing and project support. Perform ad-hoc workplace observations as part of Quality Management System assurance and identify areas for improvement. Collaborate with the central learning team on training interventions and deputise for the Airfield Operations Support Manager when required.

Strong operational experience in Airside Operations and a solid understanding of Heathrow's regulatory framework and documentation. Excellent interpersonal, coaching, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build productive relationships and deliver constructive feedback. Proven experience in promoting a positive and 'just' safety culture across operational teams. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce high-quality formal documentation. Must hold a valid UK driving licence and pass an occupational health medical to obtain an Airside Driving Permit to 'R' level.

Desirable Skills & Qualifications



Possess a valid LGV1 or LGV2 DVLA licence. Experience working with Quality Management Systems and conducting audits. Proficient in Microsoft SharePoint and Power BI. Strong attention to compliance and operational standards. Valid IOSH qualification

Working Location



Our Hybrid working approach offers the opportunity for colleagues in some roles to work from home for an average of two days a week, providing the flexibility to work in an agile way whilst ensuring we deliver for the operational needs of Heathrow . Working arrangements vary from team to team and will be confirmed during the recruitment process. You'll need to be based in the UK and within a commutable distance to Heathrow.
